The confidence vote on Boris Johnson's leadership follows months of criticism over lockdown parties in Downing Street. Here are the key recent developments:

The PM was fined £50 in April for attending a rule-breaking birthday party - for himself - in June 2020
This was followed by poor results for the Conservatives in local elections in early May
The report by senior civil servant Sue Gray on Downing Street parties - published in late May - found a drunken culture, including staff being sick, and abuse of cleaning and security workers
She also said warnings that gatherings could be illegal had been ignored
Johnson said he took "full responsibility for everything that took place on my watch" and had been "humbled by the whole experience"
But he ruled out quitting, saying he wanted to "keep moving forward"
However, at least 54 Tory MPs - 15% of the parliamentary Conservative Party - have declared they have no confidence in Johnson, prompting today's vote on his future

I have never been so convinced about anything in my life that I am now that he will lose after this post.

He won't win comfortably, but he will win, his party will be utterly eviscerated in the two by elections next week, he will spend the next year as a dead man walking deeply unpopular in his party and hated by the public, his Brexit is a disaster and 40 years of Thatcherite Conservative policies are coming home to roost, I for one love it.

Does look like he will win, but the question is how close. Is it a Jason Kenney win in the sense that he has to immediately resign because its very close.

the wank stain won't resign, he doesnt have an honorable bone in his body, nor does he give a rats arse in hell about the party or the country, he will stagger on getting as many well stuffed brown paper envelopes in his bank account as he can trying to pad his retirement nest as quickly as possible

Starmer is a bit dull but he's massively more popular than Johnson, but more based on Johnsons unpopularity, he's been in the shadow Cabinet for years so he's a competent leader

yes and she wasnt waiting on the ethics commitee ruling on whether she lied to Parliament, he's half way out the window, they will finish him soon enough

When ever I feel bad about Finnish politics, it's so good to look at Britain and remember how much worse we could have things.

I would say "no offense to any Brits", but I think it'd be difficult to find a Brit who would be offended by that.

The return of the imperial system was a great laugh. How attached to the past do you have to be to bring that back. Regardless of if you hate the metric system - going back to imperial after everyone is completely used to the other system is doing nothing but trying to bring back the 'good ole days'.
