A whole lot fewer people here would travel to QC for a game. And from what I read in the other threads, there is consensus among CPers that they would never root for another Canadian team.

So why this desire to see a team in QC?
Me neither and moreover, I am always confused why anyone cares where other teams are located. AZ versus Houston - who cares? It doesn't mean a thing for Calgary aside from tinkering with the divisions.

If anything, all the hate the Coyotes get simply for existing makes me want to see them succeed lol

To me this would've been a great fit for The Flames. Not having a Saddledome as part of the skyline will suck and imo, this kills the crap CSEC came up with.

If this thing gets done.. and i'm sitting 50/50 after last night it'll be awesome for me to see a new Saddledome in my forever home town. I pass the Tempe Lakefront every day on my way to work.
Pretty stunning idea and design. If they're going to stay in Arizona anyways, I'd love for that to be the new arena. Instantly a top 5, of not the best arena in the league.

It is just a rendering and far from design, but I think the design of the arena is quite iconic, and the facade treatment is fantastic (terra cotta?). Wish that was proposed as a saddledome replacement.

Why did I watch that video? That is an outstanding design and an impressive vision. Makes what the Flames proposed look like a bag of ####. The Flames couldn’t even be bothered to put out a video or show any interior renderings. Glad it fell apart, we would have been stuck with an eye sore for generations. Zero ambition or vision and a piss poor job of marketing and selling their idea.

Are people actually jealous because they had a better trailer than us? Have you never seen a banging trailer for a movie that turned out to suck?

The trailer means nothing. That’s not an approved design with ground breaking starting next week. Its a movie trailer designed to entice taxpayers and council to get out their checkbook.

The only thing the coyotes have is better PR than the flames did.

So if this project goes ahead where does this leave the Glendale entertainment district? I know the Coyotes are out, but Glendale is likely to lose other revenue generators like concerts etc to the new Tempe project as well. Will Glendale become a derelict dust bowl within a few years of this new building opening similar to old Olympic projects? Seems like such a waste.

The video rendering should have made an attempt at realism which would have reduced the fans in the arena 90%.

I think the saving grace for Glendale will be that the entertainment district is also home to where the Cardinals play. The Cards probably generate more revenue and traffic for any business in that district in 1 home game than the Yotes did all year lol

Who knows what they will do with that arena though as you'd expect those concerts to be moved into Tempe with that new arena.

It's just a reflex for some to criticize Southern teams. Same things were said about Carolina and Nashville. No one says those are bad markets now. Recently, people were saying how Vegas was a bad idea. Not sure why it's so hard for some to understand that having a losing team for decades and an arena that is located far away would spell trouble for any market, even a Canadian one.

I think it’s probably more about the Coyotes being a complete joke while Bettman fights tooth and nail to ensure they stay and offers nothing but supportive, positive comments, while most of his comments regarding Calgary over the past 5 years have been vague threats about the viability of the franchise if they don’t get a new arena ASAP.

Bettman is more supportive of the Coyotes playing in a 5000 person college arena than the Flames playing in the Saddledome. It’s nonsense.

Apparently some damn good glue. Because the most expensive seats in the building have sold out.

The fact that Bettman lets this continue is just nuts. Arizona is a dead market and the fact that the league continues the attempt is laughable.
The league isn't allowing anything. It's the owner's decision, and he needs a new arena to keep his gambling licence. That's what this is all about.

There’s only 8 Cards games a year though.

Barely makes a dent.

Westgate is packed for Coyotes games and in general most nights.. it’s the arena itself they need to worry about.

But in reality.. who the hell cares? Glendale killed the lease and it’s on them to sleep in their bed

Bettman had a large role in ensuring the Flames stayed in Calgary though. And he supportive of the Yotes in that arena because it's part of the longer arena game IMO.

Most of the expensive seats? One row. And they may well have kept a fair number of them for promotional/inhouse use.

I mean sure, it's something. But they have a long way to go here.

The full season package is sold out but not the half season? I’d love to see the raw data.

Jordan I know you live there but Westgate is packed most nights? I’ve been there a few times for some youth hockey games. It was barren every time.

Of course the front row tickets are gone. Should be able to sell those to visiting fans for double what you paid for them (triple or more for Canadian teams) seeing as it should be the only chance to ever see your favorite team in as intimate a setting.
