Mental health issues are everywhere. Virtually unrestricted access to guns is not.

Bataclan and Utoya Island are the two deadliest mass shootings in Western countries.
Germany has more than a few large mass shootings too

Almost all if these are gangland shootings.
Ironically BLM has cost an alarming amount of Black lives.

Once again the whole western world has gangs and criminals, it's only in the US guns are so cheaply and freely available that 12 year olds wander the 'hood packing pistols and shooting at other 12 year olds.
I work with teenage gang members here in Canada, they have no way to get a gun, its too expensive, limited in numbers and legally risky, and Canada is still a relatively easy place to access a gun due to being next door to numptyland

Comparing terrorist attacks to mass shootings is a bit of a stretch. Its like arguing that planes should be banned because of 9/11
No one is expecting gun control to eliminate shootings, but that doesn't mean you don't try to reduce them if you can.
There are laws against murder too - just because they don't reduce the murder rate to zero doesn't mean that they are useless.
The asinine response from the right on limiting magazine sizes is that "they are taking away your freedom"... utter garbage. Reduction of magazine sizes down to 10 rounds is an easy way of helping.
5-10 seconds to reload at a gun range in an inconvenience...at a mass shooting it could literally save someone's life.

I you want a fully or semi-automatic rifle, you are fully or semi-aware of it's purpose, of which it only has one. I'd go farther and say that it is almost exclusively an offensive weapon.
You can hear the politicians quietly hiding in the weeds until this is out of the news cycle. Cowards.

I’m not sure about that, some or a lot, sure. Almost all? I’ll go through the list this weekend if I have time to see if that’s true.
Not sure what your second sentence is supposed to mean.

There's been shootings at Canadian schools (robberies, domestic disputes, targeted attack), but very few school shootings. The last one, and only one to result in more than one innocent victim killed at a school since 1992, was the La Loche school shooting in 2016 I believe. That saw two teachers killed (and two more family members of the preparator killed in their homes) as the teen brought his shotgun into the school. Dawson College should have resulted in multiple deaths, but luckily only one victim was killed, same with Taber. 1992 saw the Concordia University shootings, but that was more of a workplace dispute that resulted when an employee was fired and he took it out on his colleagues. And of course Ecole Polytechnique in 1989.

In the new Kids in the Hall documentary, they touched on a fatal school shooting at Scott Thomspon’s school in Brampton in the 70s.

There has been a sharp increase in gang shootings (and other violent crime) in American cities in the last two years, with many cities seeing historic highs.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/12/us/ho...021/index.html
Lots of explanations offered, including speculation that it’s due in part to the Ferguson Effect - police reacting to intense public scrutiny by pulling back from active policing in the neighbourhoods where gangs are most active.

But that's exactly what it is - speculation. It says right in the article you posted that there has been a huge spike in gun sales since the pandemic. I would think that has more to do with it than BLM.

Not quite. Some politicians are passing laws allowing teachers to carry guns because that is the answer, not hopes and prayers.

Do you really think the upsurge in violent crime in American cities is being carried out with legally-purchased weapons?

I don't know. The last 2 mass shootings this week (the school and the hospital) were with legally purchased guns. If there is info out there showing all mass shootings and if the guns were legal or not I'd be interested to see it it.
Either way, I'm not sure about the initial BLM comment I mentioned. Seems like a huge stretch, to put it lightly.

Yes, and I think upsurge is disingenuous as the US has been the world champion of mass murders with guns for a long time. What uptick are you talking about? They've always been the best

yes, every weapon in the US is legally purchased, that's the defining feature of guns in the US, the country is awash with legal purchased guns some of which make their way into criminals hands but they all start bought in a gun store, pawn shop, Walmart or Gun Show

This NYT article is from last month.
Quote:
Of all the wrenching similarities between the massacres at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, the Walmart in El Paso and the Tops supermarket in Buffalo, one stands out most starkly: Each gun used was purchased legally.
From 1966 to 2019, 77 percent of mass shooters obtained the weapons they used in their crimes through legal purchases, according to a comprehensive survey of law enforcement data, academic papers and news accounts compiled by the National Institute of Justice, the research wing of the Justice Department.
