I imagine we see a lawsuit shortly if the PGA announces bans. Risky with the tax exempt status the PGA currently holds.

Said it before and will say it again. It's an absolute joke that the PGA Tour is considered a charity.

Seeing as Phil is a significantly bigger star than Dustin is, he probably got $250 million at least.

Well to put it in perspective, DJ’s career earnings on the Pga tour and associated events is at around 75mil. Who knows what his career sponsorship earnings have been, but I would guess he was unlikely to make anywhere near 125 mil over the next 5-10 years (whatever term he agreed to with LIV). Plus he will still make a significant amount on the tournament winnings- and looking at his comp, he is likely to do well on that front.

That ball was on the flag the whole way, and without the hole, would have rolled past maybe 2 feet. Great shot.

And so are the NFL and NHL. I don’t really see the big deal, everyone who profits from the PGA pays taxes on what they earn. No one “owns” the PGA so why should it pay tax?

NFL gave up it's tax exempt status in 2015.

Your comment regarding the NHL and NFL being "the same as the PGA Tour" is misleading, disingenuous and factually incorrect.

Neither of those leagues has ever purported itself as being a charity or lauds itself week and and week out as giving billions upon billions of dollars to charity.

The IRS website still refers to professional football leagues as exempt. I don’t see the point of sports leagues paying taxes.

https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-pr...otball-leagues

If you don’t like organizations patting themselves on the back for their charitable works, I understand that. Nothing to do with their tax status IMO. A whole lot of companies that pay taxes love doing this.

If the PGA didn’t have exempt status wouldn’t they still be talking about this every tournament?

Lol, another two strong golfers gone from next weeks field in Toronto...to stupidity. Webb Simpson and Matt Kucher not coming due to "canadian travel restrictions". Just come out and say they're anti vaxxers instead of tip toeing around making it sound like it's anything else.

"Travellers to Canada must be vaccinated or if unvaccinated they must quarantine for 14 days". That means they're anti vaxxers, just say they aren't vaccinated.

That now makes 4 RBC ambassadors out for the tournament.

Sorry, it was the "due to Canadian travel restrictions" headline that got me lol. Don't suggest it's some crazy Canadian restrictions that limited vaccinated golfers from coming up when we clearly allow vaccinated tourists (re: every golfer but those two) to come in and live life.

Also stupid is that they withdrew from the event two days before they were to fly in. Almost comes across as a purposeful last minute show to suggest Canada is crazyville that won't let them in to play their tournament when they knew exactly what the deal was if they didn't vaccinate.

Matt “Everyone knows I’m a great guy” Kuchar? Lost respect for that guy when he showed his true colors by stiffing his caddie in Mexico.

Tiger reportedly turned down a high 9-figure offer from LIV. Phil is in.

I dunno, what are we supposed to say here- scold these golfers that joined when we would all do the exact same thing? Every single one of them are joining because the guaranteed money is undoubtedly more than the non-guaranteed money they would make on the Euro or PGA tour. Either way, DJ is the only one that is both in his prime and a world class player. The rest are former world class golfers past their prime, or golfers that are peaking in their game, but hardly household names.

So Phil got $200 million. A little surprised it isn't more, but he probably lost a decent chunk for his "I'm only here for the money and leverage" comments since he is supposed to keep up the jig that this is a real sports endeavor and not sportswashing.

So $200 million plus prize money? Over how long?

I’ll be real surprised if we are talking about this league three years from now.
