If the Oilers had any kind of a goalie at all, they would be really something.

Instead they went with Smith.

Bravo.

Nah. Their brand of hockey is terrible as it's pure chaos. It may get the to the Stanley Cup finals this year but it's just a matter of NHL coaches adapting to this style of play and slowing the games down. McLellan did but didn't have the offensive horses to score key goals. Darryl had nothing. Bednar after seeing it first hand last night has to make adjustments before he is on the wrong end of his series.

At the end of the day this is a different style of series to the Oilers.

Against the Kings and the Flames, they were playing teams that at their heart were structured, and defense first. For whatever reason (I've covered the why in my mind before) The Flames stopped playing their game and tried to play a run and gun style. They lost their identity.

The Avs are built around the concept of run and gun. they have the horses to do it, and more horses then Edmonton to do it, and they're a blindingly fast team. For the Oilers to survive, I don't think that they can trade rushes and chances with the Avs, they'll get killed.

The Av's speed is going to allow them to walk a meh Oilers blueline. The Avs offense from the backside is going to put a lot of pressure on the Oilers.

Will the Oilers have to play a more structured game to surive? Yes, can they? I don't know.

Salary cap says hi! And next year is going to be even better when nurse’s contract kicks in!

Kuemper out was the assumption. After the regular season backups should be used to playing against the Oilers, so hopefully Francouz will be good to go.

I think they'll be fine. I thought Francouz played well enough when he came in and made some key saves. Avs have more than enough offence, speed, and depth to compete with the McDoofus line, so I think they're still in good shape, provided they can clean up some of their D zone play.

Avs need to take a lesson from game 1 (and from the Flames/Oilers series). If you get a healthy lead on the Oilers, don't keep taking unnecessary chances to try to run up the score. Instead they just need to lock it down, play smart defensively, and then pounce on Oiler mistakes when they happen. Because those mistakes will happen a lot.

I actually think if Mike Smith was 10 years younger, he'd be the perfect goalie for the Oilers team. They are all about run and gun offense and trading high danger chances. Smith is one of those high shot volume goalies that need to see a lot of rubber to be involved in the game and be effective. Their problem is they got the guy 5 years past his expiration date.

That's what I never understood from the Flames series. Getting up by 3 and then starting to play run and gun.

Like Sutter says, teams are only in trouble when they lose at home. Hopefully the Avs can make this quick.

Stauffer is really lobbying for a Holloway call up. Is that good idea? Seems asinine to throw a rookie out there. He seems to think it will give the Oilers a lift.

Perusing some of the Oilers’ fan boards, it is interesting that fans are now turning against Nurse and his new contract

While I do agree with the sentiment, having to win 4 of 5 against this particular Avs team, I'd say the S.S. Trouble has already set sail.

Does anyone really think a rookie with zero NHL games under his belt is going to come into a series against arguably the best team in the NHL and become a difference maker? 22 points in 33 AHL games and he's going to jump right into the NHL playoffs against the best team and become a difference maker? Someone needs to explain to Stauffer that Dillon Holloway is a good prospect, not a great one.
