These are key questions in measuring your "Car Guy Status". In addition to what you have already postulated.
I am assuming you know these shows, was there any shows in the 90s/2000s that featured a car as a character?
Transformers or GoBots?
|
KnightRider or Fall Guy? Tough. KnightRider for the car in it's day but I was a big fan of The Six Million Dollar Man reruns and Lee Majors by default. Probably the Fall Guy.
Dukes of Hazard or Hardcastle and McCormick? I can't lie that I got caught up in DOH.
On a different note, emember in the 70's there was a love affair with semi trucks with shows like BJ and the Bear, Moving On, Convoy, etc?

I'm a stickler for ensuring that internet forum content is as accurate as possible. Someone says something incorrect regarding something I have knowledge of and just have to ensure that others aren't being influenced by misinformation such as this bumper thing.

Growing up I lived in a small town next to a highway, with a transport company across the street... semi-trucks were my life! I must have watched Convoy 100s of times. I still remember summer nights falling asleep to the roar of a reefer trailer across the street.

I had a young friend who's dreams were to become a career truck driver. Everything was "Kenworth this'. "Kenworth that". I still fondly recall being at his home several times where his father (was a mechanic) would always say that wasn't a good career and he wanted more for his son and they would argue over and over.

I have independently operated motor vehicles for nearly two decades now. I dare say my credentials are unimpeachable.

This is a dumb argument and I think you're both right/wrong to some degree, but it's really silly to use fart-sniffing-marketing-fluff to support your argument.

Oh yeah? Well, I once gave both my driver's license and my NHRA competition license to the cop when I got pulled over.

There's a high degree of nerdism in any group of enthusiasts whether it be video games, sports teams, cars, weightlifting, politics, etc. I roll my eyes when I see my brother on goaltending forums arguing about the attributes of different blockers and how much better sliding surface is with certain pads, etc but it's nothing I don't do on other forums. I'm self-aware enough to know I'm a pretty big nerd.

You’re not a car guy if someone else builds and maintains your cars. Your just a driving enthusiast at that point.

Not a card carrying car guy, and only a part time car enthusiast, but I agree with EE and think the Lexus is pretty damn ugly.

Saw the new Tundra. Objectively speaking, it’s the ugliest, most ridiculously hideous vehicle I’ve been seen.
Like, it takes some serious effort to make something so bad.

I kind of love it.
Give me a gaudy, chunky, ugly-and-proud vehicle over some of the increasingly boring lines more companies are running with. Good personality.

Yeah I like the new Tundra. I mean it's not great like all pickups right now (especially the Silverado) but I don't understand what's quite offensive about it relative to the competition.

The entire full-sized truck sector these days is laughably ugly.
