I'm completely happy with Sutter taking some blame, but from the outside I'd prefer to see a tangible thing to look at.
Woodlief had Markstrom giving up one more goal then he should have in games two through five (after a rocky first game).
If Sutter saw the same he's not going with Vladar.
The Oilers destroyed the Flames forecheck and five man unit system by counter striking. I think Sutter had to ease back on the throttle for the pressure system because of that.
That's the change that I saw ... less forecheck, less two men deep. Was that a coaching call to avoid getting dusted in the counter attack? Or did the players start cheating to avoid getting caught? I'd have to know the answer to say who did what.

Good stuff from Sutter.
- Hopes there are 1-3 players from Stockton who push to make the Flames next year like Kylington did this year, and already has a pretty good idea of who they might be. I'm guessing Pelletier, Mackey, Ruzicka, Phillips, Kirkland, and Philp are all in that conversation.
- Might see a more experienced blue line to better support the younger D - maybe one or both of Z/Gudbranson walk? He's talked quite a bit during the season about how he wasn't happy with our D after the all-star break, not just today.
- Still thinks there's another level for some players to reach, in terms of training and skill set.
"Our fans just want two things, honesty and hard work. It’s like me walking yesterday from Eau Claire to 9th Avenue to the Tower, it took me 2 hours because you get to talk to people and they get the game." What a great quote by him.

For sure one of the coach's jobs is to help get the best out of the players in the playoffs, but I don't know where you draw that line. IMO the primary way coaches do this is by using the regular season to try different lines/strategies and then they double down on those during the playoffs after they have 82 games of data to draw from, which is what we saw him do by reuniting the Backlund line, putting his top line out against other teams top line, riding Markstrom, small tweaks to deal with certain players etc. The same way that Woodcroft knew McDavid/Draisaitl/Kane were their best bet of outscoring their other issues.
Do you believe Woodcroft is the reason they're getting the best out of McDavid/Draisaitl? Is he the reason they're putting up Gretzky numbers in the post-season? As for not switching Markstrom with Vladar.. I guess we'll never know if that would of made a difference but considering the Oilers have stuck with Smith this entire playoffs even with his major gaffs, makes you wonder why we wouldn't give Vezina-Candidate Markstrom the same opportunity to work his way out of it, obviously it sucks he didn't but that's my 2 cents.

I wasn't a fan of dressing 7 D, but other than that, the 2nd round debacle was on the players, not the coach. The D pairings could not figure out how to play with new partners when Tanev was unavailable and several players (Markstrom) clearly wilted under the pressure of this series. These are things that are fixed by experience and maturity. It will be Sutter's job to help guide them down that path. Time will tell if he was successful.

Personally wasn’t a fan of the goalie usage down the stretch. I thought Marky looked fatigued heading into the playoffs and used all he had to beat Oettinger. I know Sutter talked of minutes and such, but I think that went out the window a bit with a big Covid break and then the condensed make up schedule. Would have like to see more Vladar near the end.

My favorite:
Reporter-"Darryl, are you a Yellowstone guy? Are you going to go to the stampede to see Kevin Costner?"
Darryl-"I'll probably be cuttin' hay."

Regarding Woodcroft: his best players played well, and the other team's goalie sucked - what a fricking genius!
I agree that Sutter was too stubborn though. However, that is his style - stick with his guys and let them work it out.
But saying Woodcroft did anything particularly praise-worthy, well I didn't see much. What I did see though, was him standing on the bench, staring into space like a deer in the headlights, when the Flames were destroying them in the first period of game 1. He would not have been able to spell his name if someone had asked him, at that point.

Good to hear Darryl saying that he wants young guys from the farm to make the jump next season. Guess he likes young players more than some people thought he did

I say this half in jest, but we might be disappointed with the specific young guys we have in mind versus the ones Darryl has in mind.

Or is it out of necessity with the Johnny and Chucky signings? Probably a bit of A and a bit of B!

Some behind the scenes stuff from the NHL in their Quest for the Stanley Cup series.
Episode 2: https://youtu.be/Aoy7jySk28g
Blake Coleman and his wife talking about Calgary from 1:00-4:00
Edmonton talk from 4:00-6:00
Game 5 footage, with Huska and Zadorov mic'd up. Ref talking on the phone to Toronto: "So you got him propelling the puck into the net? Ok so you've got no goal, distinct kicking motion?" Also features audio of Edmonton's radio guys agreeing the call was wrong and Edmonton got a huge break.

Needed adjustments. Needed a spark.
Vladar in game 4 imo. And Ruzicka injected into the 3rd line. Until the first Jarnkrok goal, the third line was totally inept.
You need contributions from everywhere to succeed.
I would've even put Toffoli with Gaudreau in game 4-5. If Tkachuk's hand was rendering him less effective, why not then try to spark the goal scorer you brought in?
Just don't know why Sutter tethered himself to the same plan when parts were broken and/or not working.
Didn't make the rookie ventriloquist doll adjust to anything.
Frustrating.

6:38 - Woodcroft struggling with offsides, lol
I thought it was a data point, maybe we are looking at a trend or a recurring theme

You missed the best part; at the end of the Coleman segment they watch Connor McDavid stroll down his hotel hallway desperately needing a personal stylist. I don't know what meth addict picks his outfits but he needs a new one.

That's what I saw too. Thought they didn't pay close enough attention to details on some of the breakaways in game 1/2 where the puck slipped past D or poor decision making with shots that missed the net, rimmed around the boards and then a cherrypicking Oiler was off the the races.
That got the Flames off the high pressure forechecking game they'd been playing all season.
