Close though. I mean, every stick handle involves not touching the puck for a moment. I guess the question is how much room is there for non-contact between handling and essentially a mini dump-in

Having control is legitimately a thing which is why you'll see plays that appear clearly onside be called offside because the player in possession is bobbling the puck or gets poke checked at the time of entry be a defender.
