I wish it was Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman that came down on the rush and scored the EXACT SAME GOAL that Coleman and Backlund crafted for the GWG. That way, it would be completely acceptable, and we could focus on the inefficiencies of the flames, rather than wondering ‘what if’ for game 6.
Seriously, I wish the oilers scored the exact same goal so I wouldn’t be as pissed off.

Pride comes before the fall, and this organization has fallen and it has proven it is not championship quality.

Lets be honest here. Oilers were not planning to tank during the McDavid year, they just really lucked out on a generational talent. Do you honestly think Edmonton without McDavid (even with Draisaitl) would be anything but a perennial bottom dwelling team? That team should rightfully continue to be mocked IMO. The best they can do with 1 generational guy and 1 franchise guy is to continue being a bubble team.

It doesn’t matter if they planned it or not. They have it, and it beat us.
Do you think we planned to only win 5 playoff series since 1989?…well, actually in a way I guess we have because we don’t build teams on enough top talent.
You’re proving my point. Edmonton has failed miserably to build a roster with the depth that ours has, yet their game breaking talent from their foundational 1st and 3rd overall picks overcame our team.
If Treliving could/would plan to rebuild this team on a few top-3 picks I actually believe he could build a real Stanley Cup Championship team. He’s done a hell of a job with what he’s had to work with - but in this league you need a foundation built on top-3 picks to win a Stanley Cup.
Ignoring what it takes to build a Stanley Cup quality team isn’t some brave endeavour, it’s just misplaced pride and stupidity.

I thought it was really shrewd when Woodcroft put McDavid and Drai together and double and triple shifted them.
He also hypnotized Markstom into thinking he was Trevor Kidd.
what an amazing coach

we will see next round if that is what the Oilers are...Flames had historically bad goaltending and lost 3 one goal games...one of which was a gift from the league.
Pretty certain the Oilers will get pounded and bring back a worse team next season. If Evander Kane didn't cross the boarder illegally the Oilers likely miss the playoffs or at the very least lose to the Kings in round one.

While I think Spector is an idiot. He gets this right:
"Edmonton’s best players were the best players in this series, while Calgary’s best players — starting with Markstrom (5.12 GAA, .852 saves percentage) — came up small. Gaudreau had six points in the series. Five Oilers had that many or more, while Draisaitl had three more points than the entire Flames first line combined."

What have the Oilers won more than the Flames over their span of futility? One more playoff series? I still firmly believe Flames would have won this series if Markstrom was even average. Flames made Oilers look better than they are.

I’m not talking about the Oilers specifically. I’m talking about Stanley Cup Champions, and what their rosters share in common.
Edmonton has the foundation of a championship quality team. They’ve mucked up everything else and because of that I don’t think they’ll win a Champioship this season, but they’ve got that foundation - and that foundation beat us even though they have mucked up everything else.
It’s fine to ponder what if situations, but the reality is the Oilers beat us and deserved to beat us. They had game breaking talent that destroyed us.

You show up now, when the flames are elimiated despite the canucks and you belonging in the same trash bag that was carried out long ago this season. Calgary losing gave you the stones to take a peek out of your little safe space trash bag. Shocking.

Fun game, despite how it turned out. You could feel the mood of the building changing with every goal. I got to say hi to another CPer that was making hilarious comments in the row behind me in 211 (sorry, I forgot your screen name!). No one could figure out why they were reviewing the Coleman goal.
Ran into some insufferable Oiler fans after the game but others who just wanted to shake hands and say good game.

Again, this series should be going to Game 6, with all the pressure on the Oilers not to fail and have to come back to Calgary...an Oilers team who can and have folded like a cheap card table this year and other years and have an organization not built for success or positivity.
All those positive stats for the Oilers and negative ones for the Flames could go out the window quick if the Flames forced a game 7. If the Flames win 3-1 and 4-2, good chance the Oilers top.2 players still outscore our top line and Markstroms sv percentage could still be under .900, but we would be onto round 3.
The league decided the Flames don't get the chance.

Sure, I guess.
Gaudreau shied away from contact and peeled up. Be mad at me, if you want, but in OT, in an elimination game that's a joke.

Sounds eerily similar to “the closest sweep” line… said about the jets series last year. an ongoing joke in the E=NG thread. And why is “historically bad goaltending” some kind of an excuse? All year you laughed at the oilers goaltending because it wasn’t good enough for the playoffs.

While I agree the league robbed us of a chance to go to game 6, that's a lot of if's.

Here come all the fans of other fanbase now that the Flames lost. Funny you guys didn't post here at all during the great season. Pretty lame to gloat on other teams message boards only once they are eliminated. I sure don't post on HFoil or whatever abomination the Canucks use to talk about that garbage franchise.

That’s good for you I guess. If you think that’s some kind of badge of honour not to go onto other fans sites, then good for you to hold to your convictions. I personally don’t have that conviction. I like debate, not just regurgitating what the masses of fans say to one another although I do that too. I don’t think I was gloating with that comment to Dino. He really pushes narratives about the oilers fans, not alone on here mind you, but I like Dino, I find his comments interesting but he’s often wrong about the oilers.

Purposely going out to be a contrarian doesn't make you an intellectual, it makes you an insufferable weirdo. A lot of debate lords get stuck in this delusion. The fact that we're talking about sports and not something more substantial like politics makes it even weirder.

The better team for the 5 game series were the oilers. I don't think anyone could say otherwise. This was also in concert with poor goaltending, bad penalties and reffing that defied logic - definitely not the reasons, but contributors none the less.
This does not change the fact that through the year the E=NG thread was accurate. Of course that is flavoured with Flames fans genuine dislike of the Edmonton franchise and their fans for a whole host of reasons. The fact you come on a Flames fan site and present yourself as some great contrarian to the blind masses is pretty good evidence.
We are fully capable of dissecting our team both their strengths and weaknesses. This goes for other teams and the league in general. So just #### off and let us figure out what went wrong and what we need.
