Yeah. Usually takes a full year with lots of strength training. Look at Seguin. He even said his leg strength this year was poor. With that he still had 49 points plus 4 in the playoffs.

Just saying to think he'll be on ltir and then retire is ridiculous.

Professional athletes are now continuing to play after artificial hips (which Monahan didn't get). A couple of NBA players, tennis player Andy Murray, Ed Jovanovski, professional wrestlers.

I'm kind of thinking they bring back almost everyone and have one more kick at the can with Sutter. If that fails then it's blow it all up time next year.

At least that's how it feels to me. They kinda went all in this year.

Or, they're graduating a bunch of kids and re tooling on the fly.

There's a full line and a full d pairing waiting in the wings. I suppose it depends on what Sutter wants to do with this group.

I'm a bit concerned about the prospect of trading Tkachuk. The type of player he is, is incredibly hard to come by. I get the meh playoffs he had but I want to see another playoffs from him as I believe he has a ton of hockey IQ and he will learn from this year. This was really his only playoffs so far as he was hurt last time and missed almost all of the games.

My preference is that if they can, re-sign both Johnny and Tkachuk. Build around them don't trade either of these guys if you can help it, hoping that the prospects/picks you get back turn into players like them one day.

The team in general has very little playoff experience.

Losing to the Oilers sucks, but overall the team took a huge leap forward this year.

That's what everyone said last year LOL.

This isnt possible. Johnny is here for 8 years or none. Same with Tkachuk. Mangiapane to a lesser extent. There is no 'one more kick at the can'. It's sign these 2 long term or they're gone.

So you think he's going to have surgery on another unannounced joint? He also didn't spend the entire season on ltir. He was shut down on April 2nd after playing 65 games.

i noted this earlier too, regarding the Avs. they've gone through i think 4 early playoff exits. look at them now, after just tinkering a bit here and there while keeping their core. Not that we have a Mackinnon or Makar, but we sure as hell have a strong core that we can build around IMO.

Sutter bought winning attitude. the players had the best regular season in a long time. Just some playoff experience, and understanding of the adversity, will help these guys going forward.

It does hinge on Johnny coming back though, as otherwise they should need to do a stronger retinker. otherwise, stick with our guns, retinker a bit, and get going next season

Markstrom's play in round 2 surprised me. He was absolutely amazing in round 1, but he came back down vs the Oilers. I acknowledge that facing 97 and 29 the way he did with the players giving them free lanes 70% of the time they were on the ice is not a good gamble. I just thought that Markstrom would stop a lot more of those high danger chances than he was able to. Probably just unrealistic expectations on my part of the level of goalie Markstrom is and to be honest, a bit unfair to expect the guy to stop those 2 players when they are allowed to cut in the way they were allowed to.

I might be the minority but I am ready to move on from Rasmus Anderson. If he stays, I rather him play a reduced role as I think he isnt a top pairing dman with Hanifin.

I dont mind Zadorov and Gudbranson coming back but the $ would have to make sense. Kylington and Tanev were a pretty good pairing and happy to keep them returning.

I didnt like the Toffoli and the Jarnkrok acquisitions in season so I would move them if I could. The one biggest piece that has to either get traded or get a smaller role is Tkachuk. He doesn't skate well enough to be an impact player in the playoffs.

We were really missing a real #1D. Earlier this year, everyone was raving about how we had Hanifin and Andersson as an amazing yet cheap top pairing. The playoffs showed that they can't handle the minutes like true top D. They aren't amazing bargain contracts; they're paid fairly and shouldn't be expected to be top level.

I hope I am wrong, I just get the sense that he wants to go back East...and if that happens I think Calgary at that point becomes a long shot to make the playoffs.

Not sure Tkachuk is worth the investment it is going to take to sign him long term, Gaudreau drives that line and some of Tkachuks stats have benefitted from that.

The smart thing to do at that point would be to rebuild/retool...could be a quick turnaround as this team has alot of good assets and could be primed for the playoffs in a few years.

I get it that ownership or the coach does not want to go through a rebuild, but Gaudreau leaving changes everything

It's going to take 3-8 years until The Flames are even close to shovels in the ground at this point..

I would add...what's the walkaway point for him... clearly not as good as Leon or Connor...I can't see the flames going much past 9.5.....i think kucherov will be a comparable during negotiations

Bring back Zadorov. At one point I saw him wrap his hand around Kassians neck and skate him from the net front to the corner and Kassian wouldn't even make eye contact. With 3 broken ribs!

I could easily see NJ signing him, the have the cap space, he is from there and they have so much great young talent, probably a very attractive destination for him

He's from the Jersey suburbs of Philly - really different than where the Devils are which is the NY suburbs. Sure, it's close to home, but it's also probably like someone from Calgary choosing to play for the Oilers to be close to Calgary. Sure, same province/ state, but really big differences.

I am taking it with a grain of salt but a guy I know who works for the Flames thinks it is all but done. Just a step above OJ rumour lol.

In a perfect world, they would be. The oldest member of the core is Johnny, and this group has been tops in their conference once with another division title thrown in for good measure in the last four years.

Extend Gaudreau, pay the freight to acquire another superstar, and go forward with the core of 13, 19, 28, new star, 4, and 55.
