I'm sure he was injured.
That line had incredible chemistry with touch passes, set plays, stretch passes,
plays down low on the goal line, and obviously working together and practicing together to practice those plays and set up plays like opening up space to let Lindholm fire in the slot all season...and other things we haven't seen a line so here in 30 years.
The did it all season, even as teams tried to adapt, but as soon as MT got hurt in Dallas, that all went away not just for him, but the other two as well had to figure out other ways. They did, to ok but not great success.
Can that be duplicated if you take out JG or MT and replace with another. Probably, but not with someone on the current roster.

Tkachuk is slow and immature.

Pretty much wait and see with Gaudreau. Either way, Flames should also wait and see if Forsberg is available. Tkachuk is expendable. I wouldn’t make him a captain. Backlund will be the next Flames captain. It’s pretty evident in this playoffs that he’s dependable and has the drive. Tkachuk showed he’s immature and disappears pretty much every playoffs with his shananigans and useless penalties, then getting hurt. Trade him while he’s still got high value.

Absolutely bang on. Chucky is too concerned with what clever bs he’ll say in the next scrum, or his flashy chompy mouthguard fixation, or if he can score from between his legs again. Once again when the chips were down the guy was nowhere to be seen. Was he anywhere even close to as good as Hyman? Nope. But let’s strap the C on his chest and pay him 10 million?
No thanks.

I don't think the Flames can walk away from both, but, I'd have a really difficult time tying this team long term with big contracts to both. Gaudreau should stay.

would you want to sign with a team whom the league obviously hates?
from suspensions to calls, its not conspiracy theory anymore

5 minute/game charging penalties for minor boarding. 4 minute high stickings for at most a minor. Unwarranted suspensions. Goals disallowed. Agree there’s no conspiracies. It’s intentional.

I think Tkachuk may be traded to STL. Tarasenko, A prospect and draft pick?
We have Toffoli Coleman and a couple RW in AHL to play RW next year.

would have to be one heck of a pick/prospect
Tarasenko was unprotected in the expansion draft and was passed on

The good news: Johnny has all the skills to be effective in the playoffs
The bad news: Johnny can play scared for whatever reason at any time. And no, it’s not because of the Oilers great defense
Tkachuk needs a lot of maturing. Still can’t finger out what exactly is wrong with him
That’s what I see this playoffs

If we trade him, something like Barzal++ would be my target. Someone who can create offense on a separate line. If Sutter can turn Gaudreau's game around this much, I'd love to see what he could do with Barzal.

serious question. Is a team really going to trade a player as talented as Barzal and add, for 1 year of Tkachuk? I really don't think so.
They're seeing the same things fans here complain about with him.
Especially with the contract negotiating tactics his family believes in?
He'll get a decent return, but I don't see the flames being able to get a first line player out of it. maybe a pile of lesser items.

He is a 24 yrs old 100 pt player with a great family name
We are definitely going to get 1st liner for him
Maybe not franchise type player but we’ll get 1st liner. No doubt.

you're probably right.
But a one year contract before UFA at 9 million, with the family name including a hard fight in contract negotiations.
And his antics and lack of control, and seemingly not elevating his play in the playoffs (so far)
Depends on how injured he was for the Oiler series, I guess.
I'm not good at guessing the value of a player, but it seems there are enough negatives that would keep the flames from getting a kings ransom.

People seriously think Chucky’s value has gone down because of the playoffs? He’s still young and has time to mature. I bet the Devils would trade the 2nd overall pick for him

I think his value isn't as high as you think because he gets 9 million next year and then is an UFA. Add in that you know it won't be an easy contract negotiation. He also isn't a great skater and I don't think his play will age well, even if he does mature away from his antics.
Why would teams give up the farm for that?
NJ would be far better off just throwing a pile of money at Gaudreau instead.

If the Flames deal Tkachuk to the Blues, Robert Thomas should be the target. But I just don’t see how the Blues fit Tkachuk into their salary structure next season.

I'm ready to move on from the player. He's a really good complementary player but there's just something about his personality that's never really matured since he entered the league. Reminds me a lot of Phaneuf in that he badly wants to be a leader but doesn't have the mental makeup to be the guy to lead the team as when the going gets tough he loses composure and is unable to make positive contributions expected of a top player and leader.

IF they move Tkachuk (over contract issues) they absolutely have to get a player in return that can actually skate. Two of our main finishers (Tkachuk and Toffoli) are horrendous skaters.
Backlund and Gaudreau were the only forwards who seem to be able to skate the puck through the neutral zone and drive play
