It was not just goaltending. Top line and top pairing were trash
But goaltending is the most important, can’t remember a team winning a playoff with worse goaltending.

Who said that?
The Flames window is closed with Gaudreau no longer being paid a 6.75M cap hit along with Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Kylington being due huge raises.
But this playoff was on goaltending.

Maybe Vladar would have saved some Markstrom missed.
Throughout the series though, Markstrom made so many massive saves on wide open in close great chances.
No telling if Vladar makes those saves.
I am much more disappointed in team defense than goaltending.

I just don't know what you are arguing. I think most fans realize that there were several factors in the loss. Some may want to pin it all on the goaltender and you aren't going to convince them otherwise. Markstrom wasn't good in this series and I'm not sure why you are going to such lengths to defend him.

Once they realized they have to score 6+ goal to win, defense went out the window
Not saying Andersson and hanifin didn’t suck but they had to gamble and they lost their positioning and they are not built to play like that

Hope Kylington and Tkachuk get their big raise elsewhere!

Such lengths as responding to posts saying “Sutter cost the team by not going his his backup”? I haven’t defending him as much as be annoyed that he’s being held up as some sort of reason we lost. He isn’t. Same reason I’m not going to overreact to the blown call… because it isn’t why we lost. I can’t believe how ineffective so many players on our team were.

If you were to grade Markstrom this series, I probably give him a 6/10. Which probably isn’t good enough but not like 2/10 like some are suggesting.
I think the whole team struggled defensively, and Markstrom couldn’t bail them out enough times with big saves.

Nor can I but at the same time I'm not going to go out of my way to defend Markstrom when he played a major role in the series loss. I stated a few posts up that Hanafin and Andersson were bad so if you look around plenty of posters are aware that this failure was a team effort.

No way you get a passing rate when you are worse than Mike Smith

Flames beat themselves plain and simple.
Game 1 - Almost goat a 6-1 lead. Win 9-6
Game 2 - Up 2-0 and 3-1 and lose.
Game 3 - Oilers clear winners
Game 4 - Terrible start, come back to tie it up only to throw out 4th line against top line and lose the game.
Game 5 - Up 2-0 and lose to a terrible review from Toronto.
We had to not only capitalize on our leads, but we also had to beat the refs the majority of the time. Then take 2 NON goal calls in this series that were CLEARLY goals and you just cant deny the fix was in to see McBaby in the finals.
There's absolutely no chance based on what's been called a goal this year that Toronto/War room had the fix in. Its shameful and disgusting and I hope the Flames risk fines to bring it up because its absolutely bull####.
I'm sad
I'm angry
I'm most pissed off we lost to Edmonton who did NOT deserve to win this series, but he Flames let them win it with help from every media outlet and source out there.

Don’t get me wrong markstrom was bad this series. For me the biggest hole for the flames going forward is they need a true #1 dman.

Simple really. The NHL decided it’s been long enough. The generational talent had to get to Round 3 and they were going make it happen.

I have become unhappy with the NHL product over the last few years.
I will always love and support the Flames, but it is hard to watch sometimes.
Call me biased, but I just don’t see how you can review that Coleman “kick” or the Lucic major penalty and come up with those results. Baffling.
We were second best in this series, so not mad at all. Hope someone else can stop the Oilers. Tampa is a great team, and the referees/league seem to like them.

Can't remember winning with defense that bad either. Not even Dallas gave up that many ridiculous chances when Jake Oettinger stood on his head.
