I get it, the Flames didn't play well in this series, so they put themselves in a position to be screwed over again, that's on them.
But the League utterly embarressed itself again.
How a guy on one leg can do a kicking motion with that leg shows that clearly there was a gravametric flux 6 inches in front of the goal line right at that second.
That alone is going to stung. The reffing in this series and throughout this season has been atrocious to the point of embarrassing and the NHL's inability to bother to fix it basically makes the NHL a bush league.
The primary reason why I went from die hard hockey fan to a casual hockey fan is because the hockey has become terrible and the officiating is game changing.

Markstrom is a huge loser. 0 mental strength.
Tkachuk has little to no ability to perform in clutch situations. A cointoss at best to show up it seems. 1 clutch game through 2 series is not going to cut it at all.
Lindholm looked like #### all series. Flaws were especially noticeable tonight. Flubbed a few open chances by whiffing on the puck, a couple of lousy shots centre mass on Mike Smith, and a couple of dubious d plays on mcdavid. Night and day from regular season for him too. Selke nomination? ####ing please.
Dube useless. Brings virtually nothing to the table. One good hit immediately negated by stupid penalty.
We have no #1 dman. Our d core was shown to be inexperienced and weak. Kylington and hanifin were especially exposed.
Mentally weak players continue to be mentally fragile and unable to show up. Extra disappointing.

What feels worse is this ####ing mock pity by oilers fans for the goal call. Shouldn't ever have been that close to matter. Markstrom... f.
But it's indisputable that the refs AGAIN made themselves part of the series. Consistently. Time to remove the cancer that is nhl reffing from the ice surface. Drones and cameras only with off ice officials. No more thinking you're part of the game.

Montages I would love to see:
McDavid diving and backflipping any time someone makes contact with him.
Draisaitl slash slash slash slash slash anytime a Flame has the puck. You know how commentators sometimes like to say "the refs call that every time" when there is a slash on the hands? No. Not true.

After that showing from the NHL I will never support a single dollar of public money going towards a new arena. What am absolute gong show of a game.

Matt is not a playoff player. Talks a good game but unfortunately doesn’t have his dad intensity. Would look to trade.
Sign Gaudreau as he stirs the offence and eat bread.

Markstrom deserved to lose the series, but game 5 should have been won by the Flames. The ineptitude of the NHL referees is why I have a hard time watching hockey, the older I get. Flames fan forever, but the NHL is so obviously a business intent on making money at the expense of hardcore fans.

I feel like people aren't grasping just how bad Markström was exactly, and how much of an uphill battle the rest of the team had here.
Markström allowed on average 1 goal in 6 shots.
Smith allowed 1 goal in 11 shots.
To win the series, the Flames would have needed on average to double the Oilers in shots, and even then this series would likely have gone to seven. The Flames are a better team, which is why the games were mostly close despite that disparity, but that goaltending difference is why we lost four straight and only won the first game because we managed to score 8 goals (plus an empty netter).
The rest doesn't really matter. The team did not have a realistic chance in this series with this goalie. Oilers had one actually good game in them throughout the whole series.

A nice Flames style, embarrassing, pathetic finish to what was, up until that point, a great season.
Getting rolled in 4 straight games by our biggest rivals.

...and 1-5 against our biggest rivals lifetime.
In every series we lost the goal tender got outplayed by the other guy.

The thing that gets me is if they call that a good goal there isn’t even a debate. The broadcast crew couldn’t even figure out why it was being reviewed FFS. I’ve seen multiple Oiler fans say it should have counted.
It’s really difficult to believe this game isn’t rigged. The NHL wanted a BoA in round 2 and they wanted McDavid vs MacKinnon in round 3. Good luck St. Louis. You’re gonna need it.
I genuinely question the credibility of this league. Completely deflating as a fan. Makes me wonder why I should even continue to watch?

This is how I feel. The goalie is the last line of defense and even if things break down in front of him, there comes a time when the goalie has to make a big save to bail out the defense.
Markstrom continually let in bad goals that deflated the team's confidence. The team gave him some healthy leads and he could not hold them.

Seeing the words pathetic and embarrassing an awful lot in this thread. I will never figure out how someone who is embarrassed to be a fan of a team thinks. Makes zero sense to me.
Go find something else to do with your time and money that won't impact how you think the world sees you so negatively. Seriously. If being a Flames fan is embarrassing for you for any period of time in any way its probably not a good idea to be a Flames fan.

Markstrom was bad. The disallowed goal was absurd.
That said, the flames were broken by the oilers. They were rattled and giving up odd man rushes all series long.
Backlund played one hell of a series.
