Why stop there? Why not just provoke a nuclear holocaust? That way we can REALLY start fresh.
So tired of your "hot takes".

We have just seen "Peak Tre" in what this team did and didn't accomplish this season. Great regular season, crapped out in second round. He's bought himself another year but he doesn't deserve it.
His best move was Sutter. I hope he is giving Daryl half of his next year's paycheck.

Jarnkrok was solid. Tough and good defensively.
Toffoli was a complete waste of space.

Look at the playoff scoring...nobody in the league is on the same planet
Gaudreau is right there with Kucherov, ahead of Stamkos ect...Flames need to win as a team, like every other team in the league.

But the Lightning have both of those guys. And vasilevsky. And Point. Etc.
If you want a SC winner you have to tank at some point. Either on purpose or by accident.

They need a decent D core is all this series tells me. They had no issues getting goals in this series. Hannifin cant be our number 1 and Andersson Cant be our number 2. I have full belief that if they could actually lock it down after getting ahead in all these games they could easily handle the Oil. Markstrom needs a spiritual guru or a better goalie coach. If Sutter can make that big a difference than surely a good goalie coach could do the same with Marky when he is in his own head.

That was definitely a major dud. If either of them just produced a little bit more, we could've be talking about a different result.

The team has basically spun it's tires during Treliving's entire tenure and there's been a pretty distinct lack of heads rolling.
So if he's more extreme than the takes here, he's got a funny way of showing it. I'd buy this if he would have acted after the Avs embarrassed us the last time we had a great regular season

Don't you get it?
If the team loses, everything about them is bad and needs to destroyed. If they win, everything they did was good.

That’s without saying but they need better contribution from Tkachuk and Gaudreau if they want to win, especially if they are going to spend a big chunk % on them. There won’t be much left to upgrade other areas

Agree on Jarnkrok. Solid compete, good wheels, responsible. Would have liked more scoring, but that's not his strong suit. A decent value trade.
Toffoli was okay during the regular season, knows the game, thinks at a high level, has a shot, but definitely sporting lead boots. He was relevant in the NHL 5-6 years ago, but the game has changed after the league saw how the squad assembled by Vegas occupied ice. It was almost sad to watch him in this series as the play seemingly went back and forth with him constantly two steps behind. This was likely Sutter wanting a player and Treliving doing what was necessary to get him. Didn't work, and now there is more stale salary on the books for next year. Another player the coach is going to have to work around next season.

Yeah, there's no way this can be true looking at the Flames mediocrity over Treliving's tenure.

On a serious note, this team has a roster construction problem. How many forwards are at least average in size AND skating? Not elite, just average. How many forwards don't have at least one massive achilles heel?
Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Dube, Jarnkrok, and Coleman are all small.
Tkachuk, Toffoli, Lucic, and Lewis are all bad skaters.
Out of 11 regular skaters, 9 of them are either small or slow. So when the game gets fast and physical, we have nobody outside of Backlund and Lindholm that can keep up. And I love Lindholm, but when he's an example of "fast + physical", you're in big trouble.
When you look at the best teams in the league, their top forward groups are full of 6'2" guys that can skate like the wind. The top guys like MacKinnon/Rantanen/Langeskog aren't the only reason Colorado is elite - it's also the supporting cast of guys like Burakovsky and Nichushkin that are big, fast, AND skilled. Or even players like Darren Helm or JT Compher or Logan O'Connor - all of whom are 6'0"+.

I think Treliving is a pretty damn good GM at the end of the day. He put together a damn fine team when you consider it lacks the foundation that all Stanley Cup champions are built upon. He's done an excellent job, but he's playing shorthanded by not having that foundation (multiple top-3 picks).
I also think it's now time for him to pivot to rebuilding through the draft, but don't expect he will - as this team just doesn't do that.
So, without changing the process/game plan, the results will stay the same.

Tanking after taking a step forward is ridiculous. When markets like Calgary tank they run the risk of turning into the next Buffalo or Edmonton. Oilers started their tank 12 years ago and the only reason they pulled out of it was getting the once in a generation superstar.
All of those guys mentioned on Tampa outside of Stamkos are not top picks.
People that want the Flames to tank better be ready for a decade plus of crap. This season showed me this team has the ability to be a contender. Disappointing they couldn’t hold leads in game 2 and 5 or complete the comeback in 4.

It doesn't need to be a decade. But what's the point of putting together some adequate group of misfit toys if we're always going to have to go against CD every year anyway.
I mean, I have no interest in watching first round exits for the next year, with the occasional second round exit and playoff miss mixed in for variety.
