Thats impressive. Please lock him up.
Tkachuk on the other hand, I'd like to keep him but not at a bloated price tag.
Has shown up in 2/11 playoff games, otherwise chasing the other teams goons around and fading when he or another Flame is threatened. Thats simply not good enough. And his playoff history has been relatively the same since coming in.
Conditions were ripe this year for him to buck that label and make a difference. He's no longer inexperienced enough to give pass to. This is his time to shine and he's faded into the background outside of a couple games after being dragged on by fans.

You sure don’t hear many calls for tkachuk being captain these days. Complete no show the past three games, I don’t think he has the discipline or mental toughness to compete in the playoffs.
Johnny was obviously great in round one but really hasn’t done much this series. Then again, no one has.

Johnny had a 115 point season and 13 points in 11 playoff games this season. Yes, you want to sign him.
Tkachuk is a 100-point player too, yes you qualify him at $9million.
Contracts that hurt the team are contracts like Lucic's or Monahan's. Paying top players top dollar in a rising cap environment is the right choice.
If you want Johnny and Matty to be Connor and Leon, that is not going to happen, and you can't just go an acquire a Connor or Leon from the Connor and Leon tree.

If you can keep Gaudreau, you kind of have to do what you can to keep Tkachuk.
Nothing in this organization or in free agency can come close to replacing him.

Yes.
I would rather sign him long term, but barring that you pay him the $9M rather than letting him become a UFA - anything else would be ludicrous.

You absolutely don't qualify him if that means he's gone as a ufa after next season. You either sign him long term or you trade him.
And the amazing regular season points totals don't mean much nor do points in the playoffs if they can't score when it's really needed, like in the last 3 games.

Yup he has raised his value significantly this season. I want him to stay and get the C but I think the team could get some really solid young foundational players if they shop him. I could see Ottawa being all over it after hearing Brady saying they want to play together eventually. Lots of teams would have significant interest.
