If Darth was gonna start it would have been yesterday. Time for messages is over, we're in Marky ride or die mode

Hard to accept the logic of living and dying with your best players when the coach is juggling D pairings to get the 7th dman minutes in the last 3 minutes of a tied game

I bet we win if he did. Make adjustments like that before you're on the ropes. It's what surley farmer should've done.
Instead served up the guy with no confidence on a platter for a 4th straight time to no avail.
Even had the chance to yank him in the first.
(Yeah he made some great saves in the 2nd, but maybe you're not down 3-0 and flat coming out that period with Vladar in)

Yeah, easy to say I'm hindsight but Vladar should have started 3 or 4

I highly doubt they win with Vladar yesterday...maybe no first goal but the rest? One off a Flames stick on a point blank shot, the other two guys left wide open at the side of the net. Guys are making massive mistakes at the worst times.

Game 3 as well.
They scored 1 whopping goal and let McDavid/Kane have 3 easy 2-on-1 tap-in opportunities.

If Calgary has any actual intestinal fortitude (gross term for guts), they will win on Thursday.
I have a whole lot less oiler fans here in Colorado, but one that I work directly with makes up for having hundreds or thousands blathering on in Alberta.
One ugly example of this is he is wearing a “Play La Bamba “ T-shirt today, but his gloating would make anyone want to puke.
Going into to this series most realistic oiler fans were cautiously optimistic on their chances at best, as this person I work with was. Our bet now is looking better in terms of not providing the deed to my house if Edmonton wins.
Coming back to game 5, the Flames need to win.
No excuses, no blaming the referees, injuries, lucky bounces, blah, blah, blah.
Just win one game.
One shift, one period at a time and give all your fans something to be excited about.

The first goal set the tone of the game, almost to an unrecoverable degree. You can't have that kind of mistake to start a game when everyone is already questioning your confidence and your team's confidence. It was pretty much the worst possible start. It just can't happen.
They battled back to a degree, but even during their sustained play they didn't look quite like they wanted to bear down on the opposition. Which is why they didn't have any pressure on Smith after his terrible goal against. That goal had the Oilers and the entire arena nervous but the Flames just sat back instead of taking it to them. Should have been a turning point in the series but instead it was meaningless.

Definitely easy to draw similarities to the Avs series from 2019.
Game 1- impressive win but some concerns on how the team played overall
Game 2- have a lead choke it away and lose
Game 3- under siege never really in it
Game 4- in it until late but lose the game
2019 the Flames really choked away game 2, and 4 giving up equalizers late and losing in OT.
This is a different team with players and a coach who have a lot of experience in the playoffs. This group always rebounded when the season looked like it could be slipping away a little bit and would storm back with some wins. I choose to remain optimistic that this will not be a replay of 2019 and we see this team pull off what the Habs did to the leafs after a similar round 1 result last year

I would have gone Markstrom in Game 4.
I'm not sure I would for Game 5. That opening minute gaffe was almost inexcusable.
My guess is that Sutter will go back to Markstrom, but I also didn't think there was a chance Sutter would go 11/7 against Dallas and that's exactly what he did.

I don’t see sutter going away from Marky but there are no shortage of examples of nhl teams abandoning their starter in the playoffs and riding their backup.

Careful, you get scolded if you point out how obviously similar these two series are.

The results are close but the actual play isn't close IMO.
Flames were 41.6% xGF in that series in 18/19. We had a .917 save percentage which kept things closer (I don't like Mike Smith but he was great in that series) but in the end we got what we deserved.
This year it's 52.4% xGF in the series and really in a fair world it's probably 2-2. Instead though we have a .852 save percentage as a team, and have given up 20 goals against in 4 games.
Outcome is similar but the path to getting their is much different. Flames were the clearly better team in game 1, Oilers the better team in Game 3. Game 2 and Game 4 were toss ups. Unfortunately the Flames have lost both of the 50/50 toss up games in this series, and a big part of that is Smith has made more saves in big moments than Markstrom has, and the Oilers special teams have been better.

opening minute gaffe + the Kane goal was really weak. That being said, he was terrific in the 2nd and 3rd..
If they go with Vladar and he stinks it up... that is a really bad look. I dunno, i am glad i am not in charge lol.

I agree with everything, except for game 4 being a toss up. My opinion is that the Flames played a much better team game last night, unfortunately a couple defensive lapses and some sub-par goaltending led to the loss.
Not pinning the loss on the goalie directly, but the Flames have played 11 playoff games so far. In how many was Markstrom the best goalie?

Or maybe he just gets his game back like it was trending the latter part of last game.
May not happen but I'm going to go into tomorrow hoping it does and not be negative about everything all day today and tomorrow.
We have seen him be elite and win games himself. No reason he can't now.

The Kane goal was deflected by his own defenseman. Not a weak goal.

Who knows, it's not like Vladar has never turned over a puck or let in a bad goal himself.

Pretty much. This isn't like other teams who had a 1a and 1b scenario or a backup who was pushing to be in a 1a and 1b scenario. Markstrom is a Vezina candidate. You don't give up on that without causing big issues going forward.
