Sutter gives more ice time to players who earn it. So why are we expecting Sutter to put out the top line more often? He rolled four lines because his top scorers weren't showing that they were going to change the game. Our top players need to be our top players and they haven't been.

Surely, you are not comparing this Flames team to the Avs? That team is miles ahead.

Re watching some of the goals...Hindsight being 20/20....Would have been nice to get Chariot style D at the deadline. Kylington really had a rough time in front of the net...Difference in the game.

He's also had markstrom as the starter and well he's looked like the southern end of a northbound cow

There was a bit too much dump and chase for me tonight too. That doesn't work with the way Smith plays. There were at least a half dozen times where they could have (in my opinion) carried it in and established some pressure in the Edmonton end, but chose to dump it in instead.

Sutter seems loose in the post game. I dont know whether to be scared or excited. Doesn't he have a contract for next year?

This game should have completely turned after the tying goal. A team with killer instinct pounces on that momentum change and the fact that Smith has to be in his head after that. But no...they barely pressed at all. They should have been smelling blood. This isn't the Flames we've seen all year.

If the Flames can't pull off the miracle comeback, I just hope the Avs destroy the Oilers and that somehow Evander Kane never gets signed to another NHL contract.

Maybe this is Sutter's plan. A crushing defeat by the Oilers to be etched into the mind of the players and drive them all the way next year to the Cup? Playing the long game?

And Lucic, Lewis and Coleman earned it? Coleman was demoted to the 4th line because he was putrid all night. Granted the top line was great but also weren't terrible, but to get them back into form you decided to give them less ice time? Like another poster said, 5 players on the Oilers had more ice time then Johnny, he's been our best forward this entire playoffs, give the guy some rope, you saw what he did in game 7 OT. Even if you don't want to double shift the top guys, you got your 2nd and 3rd line that you can feasibly put out there. It just doesn't make any sense to throw that line out there that late in the game, considering they did nothing all game, with what was at stake.

5 forwards on the Oiler's had more ice time then arguably our most clutch and important player. I'm not sure if that means he's not what I make him out to be or for some reason his ice time is not being managed correctly. Johnny fking Gaudreau can and needs play more than 18:48 in a pivotal game. PP 2 does not need to see 1 minute every powerplay.
I'd rather lose and know that our best players got the best opportunity possible to win the game for us and have certain players sit more. There's honestly no reason Lucic should be playing almost 11 minutes in this game. Games 5 (6 and 7 if we get there) are do or die and we need to give our best players the most opportunity to win the game for us.
