Well I think that's about it.
But the team grew. Obviously some of the younger players have to get better but this team's defense made a quantum leap this year.
See you in September hopefully.

5 Oilers forwards had more ice time then JG.
In a game we were trailing and needed goals
I won’t blame him one bit if he decides to leave . That’s unacceptable

Enough with the Markstrom hate, the only bad goal on him tonight was the 1st one. Smith's 3rd goal against was just as bad if not worse.
3rd one was a flukey deflection and he made some huge stops after that to give the guys a chance.
Fingers should really be pointed at the forwards other than Backlund for generating not nearly enough and our depth on D has really been exposed with the Tanev injury.
If you take the blinders off we are legit getting outplayed and outchanced by the Oil in this series.

Edmonton just wants it more. Their forwards are winning all the battles. Their defense is blocking shots. Smith is playing out of his mind. Every single guy on their team wants to win. Our guys just don’t have the heart that their guys do. We’re a better team on paper but for whatever reason the Oilers just look way more motivated than the Flames.

I thought outside of the first goal Markstrom wasn't that bad... in fact maybe even above-average. He made timely saves.

Kylington didn't box out and didn't clear the puck, he just stood there. If he paid attention and clear the puck or move RNH all is well. Sometimes he just has that mental breakdown, like he doesn't know where he is.

The next game is the biggest test of this core's mettle.
Ever.
Need more out of the D. I think they'll be better to a man.
Need more out of Gaudreau.
Need more out of Tkachuk.
Need more out of Mangiapane.
Need more out of Lindholm
Need more out of Markstrom.
Backlund needs to keep it up.
Need more out of Toffoli, Coleman, Jarnkrok, Dube
Need less Lucic and Lewis in general. Shorten the bench.
Go Flames.

Does this feel like a gut punch? Yes, but we as a fanbase should be proud of the boys for what they accomplished this season, if this is the end.
Regardless of the outcome, we are flames fans through every win and loss, and regardless of how this series ends, Edmonton will forever = NG.

To the couple people ####ting on Chris Tanev in this thread. the guy was the only flames dman that was + tonight. He also played over 19 minutes despite missing the last 4 games.
Also, incredibly had an assist. only other dman that had an assist was hanifin on the PP.
Tanev is a warrior and anyone talking #### about him didn't watch the same game I did.

It's too much pressure. He doesn't know how to handle it.

He juggled lines all night and with 3 minutes left came up with that combination of players on the ice at the same time? No one good on that goal but Kylington takes the gold star for the no effort award.
|
Or maybe he’s trying to send a message to the players. A few guys had good games but some really were all over the place. He’s trying to kickstart his team. Easy to say certain players shouldn’t have been out there. Maybe he was just going with guys that he thought would get the game to OT.
I’m not blaming Sutter here.

They are taking after their captain. None of the Flames big players seems to want to make their mark on the series.

I can’t see that happening at all. He has been given an incredible leash and never questioned by the team or the coach. Save for the mercy pull in game three. This is one of the worst performances I’ve had to witness in the playoffs as a flames fan.
Nothing is worse than being pumped up and ready for the game and within 20 seconds the goalie makes an garbage mistake like today. It literally deflates the whole team and changed the dynamics of the game.

Problem is this was a huge year for the team, as September may be minus a superstar or two.

Crazier things have happened than a team like the Oilers blowing a 3-1 series lead. It's gonna take a miracle for the Flames to come back though.
Markstrom got better in the 2nd and 3rd today, but it's hard to win a close series when the starting goalie takes 10 periods to figure his game out and is giving up some awful goals along the way. He better have a couple of shutouts in him to make up for it.

Flames haven’t been at there best and really the series should likely be 2-2 but Smith has been better than Markstrom.
Through 4 games:
Shots: 153-135 Flames
Scoring Chances: 138-118 Flames
High Danger: 55-48 Flames
Expected Goals: 14.8 - 13.4 Flames
Goals: 20-16 Edmonton.
Save Percentage: .892 - .852 Edmonton.
Flames could win either Game 2 or Game 4 if Markstrom has a good game, instead they lost both and are now down 3-1 because of it.
When you get to the Final 8 teams in the playoffs the margins are that thin.
Panthers fans are mad at Bobrovsky and he had a .920 save percentage in the sweep…Markstrom is rocking the .850 right now.
The team can play better in front of him, and hopefully tonight was a step in the right direction. But Markstrom needs to really get his act together because he’s the reason they are down right now.

Tanev was awesome, for a clearly injured player.
How does anyone question him, at all? Just weird.
