I keep one of these in my bag:

Cheap enough to be disposable if necessary.

Is there a secret or something magical that can be done to eliminate disc brake rub for good? I feel like the bikes in my family are always suffering with break rub and nothing I have tried ever seems to resolve it.

Loosen the bolts holding the caliper to the mounting bracket so it floats slightly. Squeeze the brakes(use a velcro strap or something if you need too). Tighten the bolts. Release the brakes. It should be centered. This only works if you have calipers that squeeze from both sides, which is most decent ones. If they only squeeze from one side it's tough to get them to always be even, and require more fiddling.

I'll have to try this tomorrow after our bike ride. Hopefully it helps.

This is one of my biggest needs with a couple of my bikes. Especially the one where I periodically change wheelsets… and the spacing is JUST different enough that I have to loosen the bolts and f with the whole system. You’d think I’d have it down by now but I don’t and it ticks me off every f’n time. Aaaargh. Major gear… er…. Disc rubber!!

Spent the long weekend on a cycling trip in Kelowna with some friends. 480+km with 8700+m and my legs are trashed. I don't know how the pros are able to do this for a month straight on the grand tours.

Near the end of a long ride I always think: okay, now I'll just sprint the last few kms to win the race...or maybe I should just call an uber with a bike rack...

Unfortunately for the Flames, McDavid's unrelenting stamina & endurance reminds me of Lance Armstrong in his Tour days. Always driving the Peloton, always ready to attack.

it would be intersting to know how many KM's those guys ride in a year. I follow Tinker Juarez on Strava and the guy seems like a real machine grinding out some pretty big rides almost daily.

Seems almost every time I take my gravel bike out this spring i feel like i am battling the wind or maybe i am just always going the wrong way at the wrong time........

I've checked out a few pro riders stats on Strava and it's as crazy as you'd expect. 25,000 to 40,000kms and 300-600,000m a year depending on the type rider and any injuries. 950-1200 hours a year in the saddle.

Sticky Bottle put together a list of last year's biggest stats from pro riders. The men's and women's leaders were:

Richie Porte 37,643.3km 662,167m 441rides 1,217.20hrs

Annemiek Van Vleuten 30,352.2km 479,198m 332rides 1120.7hrs

How many did you do last year, KTrain?

I do know a couple of 20,000+ km riders in Calgary.

17,366km and 129,690m. 456 rides for 552 hours.

That was too much though. Trying to take more days off this year.

Freaking beast mode, I'm hoping to hit 6500km this year, but I'm about 400km behind pace right now.

so on tuesday evening i had to drop my son's vehicle off at the shop - so i decided to make a little 30k loop out of the task by riding east along the canal to 84th street and then back to my house in New Brighton. I fought the wind along the canal and then on the regional pathway back to NB.

Yesterday afternoon I went to pick up the vehicle and I thought I would do the route in reverse and as fate would have it, I was fighting the wind down the canal again. I wound up cutting the ride short and bailed at 52nd as I did not ahve the legs to fight the wind again.

I have no stats, but it sure feels like it has been a breezy start to the 2022 cycling season with many days featuring a good breeze and I feel that I have yet to really have it at my back for a long stretch

that is very impressive - almost 40k per ride and about 90 days where you rode more than once in a day

I felt the same way about the wind this year. Headwind on both the AM and PM work commute feels like the gods hate me! I finally got a beautiful tailwind for half my ride on the weekend and it was glorious. I just need that to happen a little more often...
