We'll see how many players skip the pointless tournament.

Tsitsipas was up 4-2 and had a couple of break points to go up 5-2. Musetti takes the opening set 7-5. You gotta love tennis lol

Musetti up a double break in set 2. The yogurt is starting to curdle.

If Tsitsipas is out day one, we should just cancel the bottom half of the Men's draw and have Djokovic , Nadal and Alcaraz play a round robin tournament to decide the winner.

Tsitsipas will need to go five sets if he wants to advance to round 2 as Musetti takes set 2 6-4

aside from the issues North Americans have on clay in general, I don't even think Shapo's mental strength is the biggest issue. I think the majority of his stroke mechanics are super unreliable and have a really low floor when not firing perfectly.
even in their advanced age Rafa and Novax are the perfect modern tennis players because their footwork and strokes are less likely to fall apart when the pressure is on. fans and media will say that it's just cause they're mentally stronger than everyone else on key points (which they are) but what they're really doing is running tennis like a casino: win 55% of points on average, and over a long enough match (best of 5), house almost always wins.

from the above article, a floor/ceiling diagram of the top 4 FO contenders FH and BH...also casino inspired by card rankings:
the floor of Yogurt's groundstrokes (especially that BH) is why he probably won't win a major as long as Nadal and Djoko can still play. and assuming Charlitos can continue to nudge his own shot tolerance up as he ages into his prime, there will be no open window for the nextgen-aged players to collect slams.

Musetti and Tsitsipas need a 5th set to determine who advances to round 2.

Damm I thought Musetti might get through this. I'm disappointed.

Greek Yogurt just raised his level a couple of notches and Musetti to be fair has faded away. It doesn't help matters that Lorenzo's first serve is essentially just a means to start the point and is not a weapon at all.

Just watched the end of the PCB - Gilles Simon match that was essentially a Davis Cup match between Spain and France. The Parisians in attendance got their native son over the line in the 5th set.

Leylah is now on court against Siniakova and they are on serve in the opening set.
Edit: Leylah takes the opening set 6-3 and playing some fine tennis this morning.

Leylah is into round 3 as well as she eliminates Siniakova 6-3 6-2 in 71 minutes. Could be an all-Canadian tussle as she awaits the winner of Bianca vs. Bencic.
