Regression to the mean can happen the larger you increase the sample size.

That's why these advanced stats in the playoffs aren't a useful indicator of the future. That's why we've seen unknown goalies pull off massive playoff shocking success, underdog teams go all the way

At this point, oilers are generating a ton of grade A chances, and markstrom isn't making enough 10 bell saves to steal them anything (particularly in games 2 & 3, he was absolute horse poop game 1).

1st period intermission tonight, reviewing those lace taps:

"What else will the villainous Flames get away with tonight? We'll now pass it off to Scott Oake who's standing with Evander Kane."

"Evander, how does it feel to wager on a game you get to play in with the best player in the world?"

It's time we concede that cbc/sportsnet have made it clear that the oilers are Canada's team and that it's in their best interest that Connor McDavid go as far as possible for their ratings/viewership.

That much was clear, as there was almost a sad/apologetic response when the flames did well in game 1 by their panel folks.

I stopped watching the intermission stuff right in game 1, it's a waste of time.

Man I hope Sutter writes a book when he decides to walk away from the game.

5 minute majors for any flames player to hit Draisatl with a puck, even if Draisatl is trying to block a shot

Hilarious, the first Flame, Backlund is just trying to get away from one of he many picks the Oilers have gotten away with. The other two are barely worth mentioning.

Watched the Lindholm and Lewis interview in the OP and both guys looked focused and relaxed, which is great to see. Also watched the Sutter interview and he has a real good way to calm things down and put things in perspective. Mentioned that Game 2 was tied 3-3 with 10 minutes left and then "we gave up a breakaway" and he's absolutely correct. The Flames will be ready.

Good grief, the Oilers are such a pathetic, whiny organization. Bunch o’ clowns, the lot of them.

Oh, good.

This will be an interesting mix. O’Rourke called the most penalty minutes in Round 1 (40.2 PIM/gm) while L’Ecuyer games saw the fewest (16.0 PIM/gm). Perhaps that’s part of the reason the NHL split up the Lee/L’Ecuyer pairing. Power plays are a bit more even, with the two combining for 7.9 power plays per game, on average.

O’Rourke had a heavy lean towards home teams, handing 61.7% of power plays to the home teams in Round 1, highest in the league.

They do tell you what's happened though, at least to some degree, and when the numbers are outside what you see historically from their regular season performance or other team's playoff performances it does suggest a heater (or cold streak) and that a correction is coming.

Advanced stats will improve, with one of the biggest targets being a further separation of high danger chances into categories.

But with the numbers we have today the Flames have more high danger chances in the series in all situations than the Oilers do.

44-38

By game ...

1) 19-7
2) 11-16
3) 14-15

High danger goals ...

By game

1) 2-2
2) 2-3
3) 0-3
