I find some solace in the fact that the Flames were down 2-1 after three games against Dallas and raised their game, so I am not jumping ship. The Oilers were also down 2-1 in the L.A. series. Sometimes being down ignites a team to come back. It's not lights out yet, but the Flames need to win 3 out of 4 now. That is not an easy task.

I dont disagree one bit brother. I'm not abandoning ship at all and I agree that maybe being down in the series ignites them, but the comparison of level of play from those first 3 to this 3, isn't even close. I hope they can figure it out.

The D was barely tested in season because the Flames always had teams on their heels with early leads and kept the puck in the O zone. I kind of worried about it being exposed like this eventually. I don't even think Tanev would make a huge difference. They need to establish their hard forecheck cycle game again. They really can't handle the Oil in their zone like at all. The only way to win is to keep the puck off the Oilers stick and in the O zone and stop over committing and pinching the turnovers need to stop.

Glad I didn't stay up for this.
I know that the Flames can handle the Oilers. It continually baffles me as to why the Flames don't seem to know it and act like the Oilers are a good team.

I think ultimately this series is hinging on the unfortunate fact -- yes, fact -- that McDavid appears to have chosen this moment to play the best hockey of his career.
The cherry-picking floater is gone. He's skating hard at both ends of the ice, engaging physically, using his teammates well and playing an all-around gam,e and the team is following along. In short, he's leading in a real way for maybe the first time.
That's going to be hard to counteract. Our D look shell-shocked and frankly scared of him. Only so much you can do against a player of his talent level who looks to have figured it out, but without a consistent strategy this could get even uglier.
Used to be the effective way to deal with it was play a possession game, on the idea that McDavid can't hurt you (and will likely help you) if he doesn't have the puck. Three games in, that's no longer true.

The team whose best players are playing the best will be the team that wins the most games. The Oilers best players are stepping up and playing to the level expected. It's why they have the lead in the series. If the Flames don't find a way to slow down the McDavid and Draisaitl, and have their top guns step up and play to their potential, they will lose the series and we'll never hear the end of it. Time for Sutter to make some adjustments. Series isn't over yet, even if it does have an ominous feeling right now.

Can, can we make me 21 again? Our playoff performance when I was 21 was unreal

Matches the eye test. Basically the top line and the depth as well as the defense got rolled all game. Jarnkrok specifically really struggled. Backlund line only one capable of asserting itself and pushing play. Sutter really has to mix things up and maybe start matching Backlund to McDavid

If you think the Flames will overcome the Oilers and go on to win the Cup, now is the time you’ll get the best value in the betting market. Assuming of course you don’t want to take a punt at 3-1 down in the series.
Flames are: 5/1 to win the WC
10/1 to win the Cup
8/5 to win this series

Bet the Oilers and their fans were pretty hopeless when they had no answer for our offence in game 1. Nobody's laying down and dying, the Flames have shown the ability to respond and respond hard. Remember who is the coach of this team. Doesn't matter whos on the other side of the ice, Doughty-less Kings went in Game 5 to Shelbyville, played a strong game and won. Edmonton has had their home ice boost, its over, good for them. Hockey starts now. Team is fully capable and I expect a very strong game Tuesday.

I wish someone would step up and plant McDavid, clean or not. You keep letting him have that amount of space, he’s going to end this series quickly. Take 5 and a game for a charge, but make him at least a little uncomfortable.
You just have to catch him first. Or slew foot or whatever. Do something.

Don’t want it to be dirty but he leaves himself open for big hits all the time.
Someone needs to run him hard.
Calgary stopped playing the body game 2/3… and I don’t know why.
You can’t chase McDavid with your eyes and keep up… when he’s skating at you just get back to the basics and play the body. Step up/in and take him out. Watch the kings series and that’s exactly what they did.

Clearly I don't pay enough attention as you. I also dont care enough to track a certain posters tendencies.
As for the series, I love Darryl and I'm sure he's set in his ways but nows the time to change it up, McDavid isn't no normal cat. We need to match lines both up front and on the back end against him and I would even go as far to say that we need to change our system when he's on the ice (less aggressive at the blue line from the D and always maintaining a high F1 on the for-check).
God I can't stand the Oilers and everything thats associated with them.

I would think Mangiapane could be a guy they could try and match up with McDavid and cover him as he’s a good skater for one.
I did watch the game but couldn’t tell you who Sutter had out there most against their top line, I’m guessing it was Backlund’s line.
Other than running Smith I thought Lucic was rather uninvolved last night too.

What happened to the physical play the Flames were using in game 1? Only way we make it past the Oilers is to play Flames hockey and grind it out, wear them down. Forecheck hard and hit every chance they get.

Even with us getting dominated last night, it was 1 line on the Oilers scoring.
That line is going to score. We need to stop worrying so much about it. Just dominate their other 3 lines.
There is nothing wrong winning 5-4 (Or 9-6) The last two wins where the Flames won had some horrible D and Goaltending. But what else did it have? Puck domination and chance domination by Calgary.
Now we have everyone worrying that a single mistake will allow a McD goal. And it will - Last night proved it. But you cant play perfect hockey. Or at least you cant consistently.
So if 18 players play scared of making a mistake and constantly worrying where McD is we will loose in low scoring games and McD will still get his.
Just go and dominate the rest of the Oilers and accept the fact McD will get his pound of flesh

Wondering how the DOPS will explain the 3 game suspension they will give Looch for his touching of Smitty. Honestly, I am way more upset at the wonderfully choreographed return to the ice. Tell me if any of you have seen that before.
And for Woody to suggest he is the better coach - I have nothing but distaste and disrespect for him. I see he didn't mention his 100 year old goalie was broken and not able to play.
Go Flames. Take all their superiority complexes and shove them down their throats.
