I've seen this from the Flames before and I'll see it again.
They needed this.
I said it before and i know it'll need to be said again.
The between the ears thing is a work in progress and Darryl has had a subtle way of saying it several times.
It's like having kids....boys specifically. They get in trouble sometimes and usually you tell them but they don't listen the first few dozen times .
And then comes the AHA moment . Oh, Darryls right....I heard him say _____ (sounded like Charlie Browns teacher) but the bits and pieces I heard must have been right because here we are.
Long story short. Sometimes lessons are painful . Sometimes you learn right away. Sometimes it takes a bit more to learn that lesson.
Maybe not for this message board but you gotta let them learn the hard way before you ask em....how did that turn out for you?
I'm truthfully hoping this is a very short lesson otherwise .....well use your imagination.
Go Flames Go!!!

After that turn of momentum in game 2 (thanks refs), you go into Edmonton probably looking for the split.
That hasn't yet been spoiled. Doesn't matter if it's the first or second game, you just wanted to take one and regain your home ice.
And if you need an example to boon your optimism, NYR just came back from 1-3 on the Pens, and Smith when peppered wth higher quality shots is hardly above Domingue or Jarry, IMO. And we're not even in that kind of a hole yet, so the series is still very much in the balance.
Also worth noting that the Flames have yet to play like themselves for more than a period in this series, and it was more or less the same after 3 games vs Dallas. You have to imagine we'll see that from them before all said and done.
Also put this in the PGT. .. For all the crapola that has been the past 5 periods, if Flames can get a win on Tuesday, they'll be split 2-2 and have wrestled home ice and momentum back. They didn't win the division for nothing, now its time to show it. I still think they can do it.
And if they can't in game 4 and it's more of this, there's nothing to be upset about because they were never gonna do it anyways. Game 4 is massive, Go Flams
Flames need to get back to their hockey. I wasn’t worried coming into this series and I’m not worried now. Losing Tanev sucks, but we have shown that we can win without him. Play like we did it game, get a few more saves and we off.
This is just another test the lads have to pass. The Oilers are just their chicken-duck-woman-thing: it may take them 49 times, but they can beat them.
There are much worse places to be than down 2-1. A spanking like that steels your resolve. This is a resilent group. They've responded brilliantly in circumstances like this all year. And respond they will.

Despite the fact that Sutter does not make lineup changes very often (rarely) during a playoff series, I think after studying the video from the last 3 games and perhaps anecdotally from the Kings series he might make a change to Calgary’s defensive core.
As much as the team is missing Tanev, it’s obvious he can’t play, however they have a rested Mackey and Valimaki, so perhaps one of them cracks the game 4 lineup. Healthy and rested, could make a difference if nothing else some fresh legs and proper gap control (keep it simple) could help on the backend.
The playoffs are a marathon, so having healthy and rested players to help the team is a definitely a positive.
Not sure if it's because I don't live in Calgary, or even Canada for that matter, so I'm not surrounded by this series 24/7--which after last night is a good thing. With that said, I'm still not worried and am confident we turn this around and take the series. I'll put it this way, after going down 2-1 against Dallas, I did not feel good at all.
We know how streaky EDM can be and when they're on, the first line in particular, they can look electric. We also know that they aren't good defensively, and that Mike Smith is Mike Smith, and after facing Oettinger, I cannot imagine anyone in our lineup is worried right now about scoring.
With all this said, CGY/EDM games in the current era are always unpredictable, and this was never going to be an easy series. Last night, the crowd was electric, and the Oilers were absolutely feeling it. We played lousy, it happens, but this team is too good and too well coached to just roll over and die. I went into this series saying the Flames would win in 6--and I am sticking with that. Win Game 4 and it will be a completely different vibe in here. GFG!
