You can say he had the yips in game 1, but he was fantastic the last two games. Just horrible puck management and support by his team. They hung him out to dry, and he still made a lot of great saves tonight, especially in the 1st.
The team needs to figure out how to play the Oilers. Markstrom isn't really the problem, he's just a symptom of the issues against this stupid ####ing team.

If you look at the stats that take context into account Markstrom is not an elite goalie. In the regular season his goals saved above expected and high danger save percentage were not top 5. In the playoffs right now his goals saved above expected (per 60) is dead last among goalies who have played 8 games plus (I.e the starters).

He has been the better goalie in one game this entire post season. It's shocking he found a way to play worse than Koskinen in game 1.

Would you care to apply and share your meticulous stats, regarding the Flames top forwards, in game 2 +3?

Well, well, well. How the turntables.

Seriously though there is only 1 "elite" goalie in the league (Vasilevskiy), and a whole bunch of guys knocking on that door (e.g. Markstrom, Shesterkin, Saros, apparently now Oettinger)...but it's especially rare these days for anyone to be consistently dominant.

I'm still convinced that Markstrom's left arm/wrist hasn't been 100 percent since game 1, when Kassian jumped on it. Not sure how the media hasn't talked about it or why it was never brought up for supplementary discipline.

The Oilers owns him for years. If we want to win, play Vladar.Markstrom gives the Oilers a huge psychological lift. If it wasn’t for him they were dead after 2 games.

When your defense gets shredded like it did last night the focus shouldn't be on the goaltender.
Gave up 21 first period shots, and then basically four two on one breaks to start the second.

Laughable that Markstrom is the discussion.

I think like Sutter has said, the moment is getting to some of these younger guys and unfortunately last night it just kind of Snowballed in the 2nd period.

I agree with you, but if you hadn’t watched the games, how would you feel about a goalie letting in 20 goals in 4 starts? Is it really laughable that a GAA over 5.0 is worthy of discussion?

I think you have to look at the goals themselves.

He was terrible in the game they won, and one of their best players in the two they lost.

And four starts? Are you using the regular season game?

You only worry about specific goals for backups!

And coming around? That's pretty arrogant.

Yes, I am. It’s consecutive starts against the same team

I will say that one thing I do find laughable is the emphasis on comparing ‘Markstrom vs Oilers’ and ‘Markstrom vs rest of league’

Seeing as the regular season saw the record being 2-2 and total score being 17-16. I am not convinced that there is a different story for ‘Oilers goalies vs Flames’ and ‘Oilers goalies vs rest of NHL’

But here we are

So you double down?

Suggesting you were light years ahead of everyone and some (me) is coming around is arrogant as hell.

Your reply is even worse.

You be you though.

Markstrom seems to have a slump every season. Bad timing for this one.
Start Vladar next game. He’s proven himself and it will send a message to the rest of the team to play with some desperation and focus.

^ that would be a bold move to switch up the starting trendies.
To me markstrom is in the group of main guys who are not playing well for these past two games, and they need a collective reset.
