Flames are losing in large measure because the Oilers are the ones playing with more tenacity, and they have been much better defensively. Markstrom hasn't been perfect, but it is the Flames being lost in their own zone that cost them last game, and so far this game. If you were to tell me that the Oilers are the team that will look much better defensively, I would have laughed. Now, a lot of this is because of McDavid and co. (and mostly McDavid), but the overall the Flames have been terrible defensively.

Also, the refs suck. I never complain about reffing, but they have been brutal. That dive by Draisaitl should never have been called. That's just an embarrassing mistake on the part of the refs, but I haven't seen them make up for it.

Just awful, worst they've played all year. No gap control and constant give aways. Oilers freely blowing the d zone knowing we can't keep it in.

Not skating, moving the pick like it is a grenade. Not hitting anyone. Might as well have stayed home boys.

I picked Oilers in 6.... Nothing in these first 3 games has shown me that the Flames are going to do much.

Lucky to get out of the first game, got screwed over pretty good in the 2nd game. Third game playing absolutely awful.

Nothing would make me happier than being wrong.

Pure defensive miscues.
All Oiler goals off rush.

1 have to stop cross ice pass. Hyman and Driasital are 3 feet apart, there has to be a Flame open to either cover those guys as one and block the pass acros Backlund didnt dump puck in earlier in shift so Oilers had speed in zone.
2 Kylington has to cut in and cover Kane, instead he picks his ass at the far post covering a guy 15 ft away from the net on the 3 on 2.
3 Hanifan's epitome of terrible confidence. Let McDavid go outside, why give him the inside?
4 Andersson sellfish at end of PP trying to go in himself and got caught deep after bad shot. Lost puck battle along boards and another odd man rush.

Becuase of this we have 3 D (Hanifan, Andersson and Kylington) playing with zero condfidence, and forwards are worrying about covering for those guys and thus can't play their game, nevermind those 3 D helping in the offensive end.

This is nothing like the Flames team we've watched all season. No one deserves more than $5m AAV based on performances to date this series.

Yeah, our suffering is about on par with Obi’s.

I am anti WoS but some of these comments are making me change my mind.

Would have loved to see the same posters in 2004 when Vancouver ran us for 4 goals. Yep it was over then. Just a plucky Flames bunch lucky to win a few games against the cream of the Pacific

We will not win the series on sub .9 goaltending. Markstrom is incapable of doing this over large sample size against oilers. Hopefully vladar can.

It's not all on markstrom no doubt. But we are partially in this situation because of markstrom. It's silly to avoid it.

Gotta give Bieksa and Botterill some credit for their intermission commentary

Dallas didn’t outscore us by 4 (so far) and hang 8 straight goals on us though.

I was nervous af watching game 1 with the four goal lead Calgary had, does anyone have any illusions that were coming back in this one? That’s the biggest concern for me, Edmonton evaporates our leads like water hitting a hot pan and all signs in this one is that the flames are done.

Tanev playing does not make a difference tonight. Flames are still losing, as they are playing like garbage.

Top line is doing very little.

I think we should try something with the 3rd line. I wouldn’t mind seeing Ruzicka in for a game. All in all they stopped playing like a 5 man unit and have given up more odd man rushes than i’ve seen all year. Hopefully they can keep a smaller gap between the forwards and D as the series keeps going.

I’m also curious about adding some offence to the second line by going with Tkachuk there and playing either Coleman or Toffoli on the first line. As far as McDavid spinorammas I think that’s what cross-checks are for. Also, it’s the perfect time to give Vladar a period.

All in all, I’m looking to see a proud team that won the division for a reason to start the 3rd. Smitty(It was 4-1) can make a game of it in a heartbeat, so let’s get the momentum back!

Flames won they game they were most penalized in; maybe they should lean into it and not bother trying to stay out of the box?
