Who knows? Does seem odd that he keeps skating if he's out for the year but maybe he's trying to convince them he can keep going.

It would seem from the past, the Flames aren't the best for shutting players down when they are injured. Many players have announced on garbage bag day some pretty serious injuries they played through only to get surgery immediately when the season is done. Might be more of that.

He didn't move or get up from that face first position, but the cameras didn't show him leaving the ice or really focus on him for the shift he came back that game

At this point not giving Flames fans an update on Tanev is stupid. Edmonton isn't game planning what to do if he is in. All it does is give fans hope that he may be coming back and make us disappointed when it doesn't happen.
Show some respect for your fans and give a proper update.

When players are out they absolutely say how long term it is. Playing guys on different lines in practice to be all sneaky and then they aren't even in the warmup is stupid. Every day we get excited Tanev may be back and then he's not and it's disappointing.
There is no advantage gained with this, so all of goes is screw with the fans.

Everyone is either 'day-to-day' or 'out for the playoffs' at this point.
Occam's Razor: Tanev is pretty close; he can practice to keep his conditioning up and test how close he is (ie. how he handles light physicality). The answer is probably that he can't quite get through 20 minutes of full physicality and wouldn't be an upgrade on Stone or OK.

If this is the case then that's fine. But rumors on this board are that he's done for the season. And needs shoulder surgery. If that's the case just do it already.

This is kinda funny ( not sure if "funny" is the right word), after I read this thread, a song popped in my head. " The Circle Game" and I changed a few words.
And the rumor, they go round and round
And the emotions go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return, we can only look
Behind, from where we came
And go round and round and round, in the circle game
And go round and round and round, in the circle game

Those rumours are probably bunk, but even if they aren't, there is sometimes a tightrope where a player should have surgery (or surgery is inevitable), but it might also be possible to play through it without causing additional/irreparable damage (certain kinds of tears).
It seems like a particularly narrow tightrope, but I think it's plausible that moderate activity would not hinder short-term healing, especially for an upper-body injury where it might be a matter of avoiding certain movements/positions.

If you’re getting this worked up about the status of Tanev, think about how crazy it’s making Woodcroft

If Tanev isn’t coming back Sutter need to switch up the pairings. Kylington with Gudbranson. Zadorov needs to be in his role on 3rd pairing

In the regular season I might agree, but I think Z has a higher ceiling than OK in the playoffs, but they are both high risk stocks.

When you say Calgary Flames do you mean Professional Sports Teams? Because what you're suggesting is a Flames thing is a pro sports thing.

In this series I’d prefer Kylingtons speed on McDavid over Zadorov size. As much as I’d love to see zadorov lay out McDavid it’s probably not happening and he’s more likely to get burnt by it
Tanev playing sound positionally is killing us so far.
It’s a series of our d falling asleep vs their terrible goalies. Smith settles down we desperately need our d to as well

Kylington, rightfully so, is getting the least amount of ice time this series as a defenseman. Stone is getting more time, and Zadorov has been getting 6-10 more minutes per game.
Kylington was responsible in some regard for some top quality chances against last night. Having him on the ice more against McDavid would be big trouble. Hannifin is fine but is playing a bit scared. He, and the team, need Tanev back to chew up minutes.
