There must be the cornhole regional semi-quarter-qualifiers, or Westminister Kennel club preview show that they had to bump the meaningless hockey game for.

I assume its due to the NBA game between the Mavs and Warriors at 7pm MT. Create a little separation between the two maybe.

New York state has 20 million people. ESPN doesn't care about the Battle of Alberta. Rangers is what sells ad space.

It's due to the PGA Championship being broadcast on ESPN right now. Pushed back eastern game to 6MT as well.

Kane is a scumbag, ignore him.
As for going after top players, they only have one. The other guy is already crippled.

Watching the game taking the ferry to NFLD tonight. Man, I feel for Atlantic flames fans having to deal with these start times all year.
Hope the ferry has good reception… go flames go!!

Unfortunately it does.
Battle of Alberta may be a great series, but the draw is low, really low outside of Alberta. There's 5 million people here, that's really small.
Rangers, basketball, golf... All rank ahead of Alberta. Just the way it is.

You're missing the point entirely. Of course those things are bigger draws, that is not up for dispute. Nor is it relevant. The issue is: why start the game so late? They paid for the rights to show it, makes more sense to attract as many viewers as they can, not chase them away.

Hockey fans want to watch hockey. But no one wants to watch a game at 1:00 in the morning, which is when the 3rd period will be on out east.

Because they probably lose ad space by moving the Rags game up an hour. They know the small audience that they have for the BOA is going to tune in regardless. It's small potatoes comparatively.

Yeah exactly. So since nobody else cares, and there is no close to zero crossover audience, start the game at 7pm and move on. We have to wait until 9pm in the off chance that 6 people in New York State wanna stay up until 2am watching an extra hockey game? That's dumb.

The Warriors and Mavs play at 7. The NHL wants nothing to do with going up against that.
An 8:30 start is a 7:30 start on the west coast. That's your sweet spot to catch some viewers there. They know the MST fans will watch regardless.

I'm not complaining. It's a 7:30 game over here, perfect.

Yikes, watching Tim and friends you would think the flames are the Russian national team out there with how much "we" (the Oilers) need to do to deal with the big baddies out there.
Did enjoy the part about Johnny, Backlund, Toffoli and Mangiapane all taking 0 hits in the last game.

Thing I've noticed about shows like that today is that they're talking about what the Oilers can do to win tonight, how the goaltending needs to be better, they need to start on time, how they came back even though they were dominated and still almost won, what injuries they have.
Not a lot mentioning that Markstrom was brutal, the Flames defensive play was sloppy at times, that Tanev is out. That McDavid's big night (and yes, he is a great player obviously) was in large part to do with some very stoppable shots and frankly some good luck on his part.
The Oilers can be better. But so can the Flames.
