100%. Not sure how you watch that series and come to the conclusion that a different coach would have made a difference. In fact, without Bowness likely the result is much worse for them. But, he's getting old (I think 67?) and with Trotz on the market... maybe...

I was suggesting Deboer as the new head coach in Dallas.

I thought he out-coached the flames staff in round 1.

He had nothing to work with and was one shot away from winning the series.

Sure, if telling Oettinger 'you're in' counts

He also told his skaters, ‘When in the D-zone, clear all the rebounds. Otherwise, you can pretty much ignore the puck.’

LOL, change of scenery with Natalie Gauvreau might be a good thing in Dallas!

No Bowness in Dallas is a bonus for Dallas, but Bowness in Dallas would have been seen as no bonus at all.

For Dallas.

I think what Dallas fans didn't like about Bowness was more of his comments during the regular season that the offense would take care of itself, or words to that effect. When they got early goals during the Calgary series, they would keep to their shell and not try to press for more, which irritated their fans.

If you look at the results, I'm not sure what more they could have expected from their roster. They made the playoffs and had a good showing. Sure, Oettinger's save percentage was the best, but Markstrom's was pretty high too. They created chances and Markstrom made some big saves.

Is some other coach going to come in and turn Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin into $9M+ players? After listening to Bowness in his exit interview, it seemed that he was at peace with not coming back.

It was boring and terrible to watch, but it nearly won them the series. He did what he had to to win. Also seems like a really likeable person.
Is this possible with the sky-high expectations of Oettinger? The Stars are probably forced to chase a Cup while they have Benn and Seguin under contract and with Oettinger as a starter.

You start a fire sale and Oettinger might request to be moved and/or not sign long term (I'm unsure of his contract status as I write this).

Huge mistake for Dallas in my opinion. Any other coach/system and they would have been blown out. I had a lot of respect for how Bowness handled that series.

Maybe having to employ the trap, just to stay in the game, isn't the vision the GM has for the team.

Then the GM shouldn't spend most his top player salary for the next half decade on Seguin and Benn. This team is middle of the road and needs to rebuild quickly around heiskannen and oettinger. Instead they are stuck with those two albatrosses.

The question is - did Bowness coach that because it’s all he could do with the personnel or is it his usual style? I haven’t really watched him enough to know.
