8:30 start. Dinner from 6-7:30 and then sneak out the back door ?

Cool dinner and then politely step away for the better good of Flames Fandom.

There’s no way she could be mad.
Or offer to take her… re-book dinner

I said "out of the dinner", not "out of the Game"!

You say "Dear <insert your own pet name here>, you know I love you more than any other. Your family is great too. However, we can have dinner with them any time. I don't want to wait another 32 years to miss going to a Battle of Alberta playoff game.... and I'm not going to chance it. Either reschedule or host them without me.... and if you don't let me go there will be hell to pay!"

I’d also be willing to commit any number of crimes for an invite, so just tell me who to murder (maiming may also work) or whose house to burn down and I’ll meet you at the dome at 815ish. I’d recommend the most distant and least liked relative to minimize the burden on your wife.

Is there a member of said extended family you could take as your guest? That way you’re not bailing on them, you’re just spending that “family time” elsewhere.

Otherwise, say someone at work is hosting an important client but they just tested positive for Covid so they need you to step in. I’d never tell someone to lie to their wife, but you’re a good employee and the boss needs you!

This one is gonna be real interesting. What do the Oilers look like trying to play tight defensive hockey? Do they try to?

For me this is a "tone from the top" thing. Sutter has been preaching all year about playing our game, sticking with it, that it's a process, and that you have to learn how to win in the playoffs.

When the Oilers tried clamping down on the Kings they were low-scoring affairs. The Kings' anemic offense is no comparison to the Flames'. So if the Oilers get down I would have far less faith that they can "stick with it" and try to win playing that tight game. And notwithstanding the media's narrative, there's no evidence they're better running and gunning than the Flames are.

Just play Flames hockey, and I think we finally shake the game 2 curse.

Nah, re-scheduling this effn' dinner is not an option. Sisters, brothers, their children, parents, firends... I do intend to go to the Game, of course. The only question is, how to present the news softly...

Tell her you tested positive for CoVid at work and are going to book a hotel to isolate for the next 3-4 days

Well CP I'm on my way back to Calgary from Singapore, didn't want to be out of town for a Battle of Alberta playoff series! Just in transit in San Francisco now.

Briefly considered heading down to the Red Lot or somewhere on 17th to enjoy the game, but the much better choice is to head to my folks' house and watch the game with my old man. A much better plan. (But if we don't sweep and someone will be looking to offload Game 5 tickets to a guaranteed non-Oiler out-of-towner PM me )

It's not gloom and doom. It's reality. Why be so thin skinned that you can't even handle a post stating a streak? *shrugs*

Just disappear and go. Don’t respond to any calls or messages.

Then wander into the local supermarket completely naked sometime in the next couple days. Act disoriented and confused.

Explain that you were in a fugue state and don’t remember the last 48 hours.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask but I made May Long camping plans long before we even made the playoffs. Now I wish I wasn't going. I'm potentially going to miss game 2 and 3! Is there any way to watch it streaming on cell data? Even if I've got to sign up for some subscription service so long as I don't have to lock into two years or something silly like that.
