Seems a bit much. US is a safe country.

Sure, compared to Afghanistan I guess. But it's the 36th most dangerous country in the world according to this ranking:

https://worldpopulationreview.com/co...rous-countries

It's way behind anywhere in Western Europe. It's barely ahead of Saudi Arabia.

I assume he's not vacationing in gangland Baltimore. The worry was random attacks which is a rare risk.

That's what I tell her, but she's a very conservative person.

The US is safe for a tourist the way Mexico is safe, you are unlikely to be caught up in a massacre but it does happen every couple of weeks, its just a big country, a big very effed up country

Yeah it’s certainly not worth the headspace as an actual risk. I don’t travel to either of those countries because I have no interest in spending money there.

Wow I would have thought India was much safer. Jamaica adds up from the experiences I' very heard with 'guides' trying to luretourists into blind alleys and such.

Yeah I've always shrugged off warnings from Indian friends when I tell them of my hope to visit India one day, thinking they are exaggerating but those numbers seem to support what they're saying.

I suspect half of those India deaths are caused by the monkeys at the Red Fort.

Numbers shake out differently looking at murders only. Five year tally by country is:

Mexico 25
U.S. 22
Jamaica 17
Philippines 13
Burkina Faso (!) 10

https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/more-c...road-1.5734627

U.S. rate is still very low when you consider the enormous number of trips (20 million a year) while the number in Jamaica is alarming considering the much small number of visits (300k). No idea what the heck was going on in Burkina Faso.

I know three people who have gone to Jamaica. All three have been mugged.

I know 2 people who went there for several months doing humanitarian work. The girl said she loved it always dreams of going back because she was fawned over by Jamaican men. The guy was assaulted twice in the first week and the organization wouldn't let him go anywhere without armed security. It's funny listening to them talk and how wildly different their experience was.

Might be worthwhile to share a source, since ABC news is reporting 2 dead as shown above.

Sandy Hook ten years ago. America loves a reboot.
