I'm half listening to the Marek Show right now where they mentioned it and I feel like Friedman was saying he feels like Vegas was waiting for moves in the market and once Trotz became available, they let DoBoer go, implying they are looking at bringing Trotz in.

Vegas' failure to make the playoffs was more of a General Managing issue than a coaching issue....

But I guess coaches are hired to be fired.

Trotz is the Jabba the Hutt of hockey. It would only be logical for him to coach in the desert.

5 years. Two coaches. Neither of them failed spectacularly. Gallant went out in the 2nd round and was then fired with a .551 record in the middle of the next season.

Deboer finished that year with a .727 record and lost out in the conference finals two years in a row. He narrowly missed the playoffs this year with injuries to goaltending and star players.

Tough job to keep in Vegas.

Would Trotz want to go to Vegas? After a hundred and eleventy five years in Nashville he spent only 4 years in Washington and then again in Long Island. Would he last more than 2.5 years in Vegas? Is Vegas trending in the right direction for a coach of that caliber to join the team? He may want something a little more promising.

I take it you are hoping for Trotz in WPG?

Most Flames fans I know are pretty tired of Vegas getting everything they want, especially when it comes at the expense of the Flames (Stone, maybe Eichel etc)

I feel ya

Well, it would appear that we're doing just fine without Eichel and we got the better Stone anyway!

Yeah Vegas is starting to give off the smell of a mess in the making.

Maybe that magical first season has set unrealistic expectations for the management / ownership.

Bring me the rookie!

I'll never look at Trotz the same again now. Thanks.

Isles hire Lane Lambert, filling the position in-house. One less opening now for the coaching carousel.

I think it was more an injury issue. Still he kind of unravelled under the pressure at the end of the season as the Lehner injury thing was bizarre and it seemed like he may have lost the team.

I guess the question is which team would be a better option?

WPG? PHI? TOR...?

WPG is strongest in goal...lots of question marks at forward. A juggernaut in their division, STL still looking strong, with MIN/DAL/NAS as competitive wildcards.

PHI has question marks everywhere, especially Couturier's health. NYR+CAR look legit for years to come, can't write off WAS/PIT/NYI, NJD coming soon, CBJ may not be far behind.

VGK has some risk/uncertainty, but they've actually got a lot of flexibility if they need to shore up certain areas.

They are in the weakest division - LAK on the come-up, but I think you're less scared of ANA/VAN/SJS/EDM than the 'competitive' teams I mentioned above. CGY has a tough off-season and hasn't had consistent success with this group.

Regardless, I'm sure he'd love to be the first guy to coach different teams to cups since Bowman, but Darryl is taking that distinction in about a month.

Firing the coach who did the best he could with that sh*t show of a season? What a Vegas thing to do.

Trotz still makes $4M next year. He might sit out the season.

I'd add Montreal as a potential destination - they've paid coaches top dollar in the past. And Dallas might be hiring too.

This just seems normal for Vegas. A new shiny toy on the market (Trotz) so they abandon their guy and go after the shiny toy.

They do it with their players, why not coaching staff? No loyalty in that organization at all.

DeBoer may land a another head coach job as he's shown to be an above average head coach.
