Unsung hero for the Stars: ex-Flyer Michael Raffl. Physical, stands up for teammates, tough defensively, PK, moved to the top line, chipped in offensively. What a playoff performer.

I for one am glad to be recording a show tomorrow. After criticizing them after game 6, they were all heart tonight. Amazing how much Sutter has changed this team. If the Flames had any other coach, we'd be talking about Dallas playing Edmonton right now.

Curiously, this is the first time since 1988 the Flames have beaten an American-based opponent in the first round. In fact, it's the first time since '88 they've taken round 1 vs. a team that's not Vancouver.
The Flames are also now on a 2-game win streak in OT of game 7 ('04 & '22), after losing three straight ('91, '94, '95) in OT of game 7.
These are some facts that we just can't live without.

The Flames have won 9 first-round series, 5 against the Canucks.
The previous two times they've won the first round in 7 games (both in OT), they've gone to the Final.

Oettinger with the highest save percentage by a starting* goalie in the playoffs since they went to the four x best-of-seven series in 1987. He overtook Turco's amazing performance from 2007 when the Stars posted 3 wins against the Canucks...all shutouts by Turco.
Anderson started 4 games after taking over the reigns from Hammond in 2015.

Great series by Oettinger, congratulations to him. Flames win in 5 if not for his other-wordly performance.
He was absolutely lights out for 7 straight games, and for my money the best goalie performance in the playoffs since JS Giguere in 2003.
Congrats, but goodbye.

I had no idea the Stars record this season with Ottenger in net was so strong. Combine that with the Stars going deep in the playoffs twice recently, and it's really no surprise this was such a challenge for the Flames to pass.
Other than Tanev being injured, hopefully the Flames come out of that battle much stronger and use it as a spring board to go deep themselves.

Honorable mention Demko in the bubble, stopping 123 of 125 shots and almost stealing the series for the Nucks vs the Knights. Was only 3 games though, not 7. Giguere was unbelievable in '03, but I still give the nod to '04 Kipper; he flat out stole the Detroit series.

Yeah I really failed at my pre-series scouting, shouldn't have been wishing for Dallas...I never even looked at their goaltenders record, big mistake. Not that I had anything to do with Nashville blowing a 4-0 lead to the Yotes.

The team did well with him in net, but you’d be excused for not thinking a guy with a .914 SV% puts up that performance. That was next level.

That is awesome being there live for those game 7s! The 1986 game against the Blues and the 1991 game against the Oilers, both were in Calgary.
