If they lose at least they save themselves from the potential of a loss to the grease, so there would be a slight silver lining there. Expect Oettinger to turn into a pumpkin in round 2 if so after being another wall tonight.
The key to victory is Markstrom being at least as good as Oettinger, and the skaters playing how they know they can play. I expect some Zadorov/Benn nonsense early so hopefully that isn’t too big a distraction. The team needs to keep it 5on5 and keep Gaudreau out on the ice in as many high-leverage situations as possible. He’s the only game breaker in the series but he’s not being used like it.
Also, there’s the very real possibility this is the last game Gaudreau ever plays for the team. If so, good luck in the future my dude, this team hasn’t deserved you. Would be incredible if he can drop a statement game tonight and power the team through to round 2 though.

This team is nothing like previous iterations that made playoffs.
2019 and 2020 I hoped for wins again Colorado and Dallas but did not expect.
This year yes I definitely expect a win tonight however Matthew, Tyler and a few others have not contributed to the score sheet and that is the difference why flames were not already in round 2.
Sometimes sports is what it is… just ask the Maple Leafs and all others already out. But this team can get better . Hopefully this year but if not next year if they re-sign Johnny.
Sutter has been correct there are guys that need to still learn and it is tough.
The previous iterations just did not have the horses and I think we would be fooling ourselves if we think 2019 & 2020 teams had any shot.
This team still does if a couple of the guys step up!

Go out there and play your game, like Darryl Sutter has taught you, and you will prevail. I believe in this team.

Seven reasons the Flames will win Game 7:
1) Jacob Markstrom will beat Jake Oettinger
Earlier in the series, Markstrom made it his personal mission to be better than the guy at the other end of the ice. Oettinger is on a heater, but Markstrom will be just as good, if not better for the Flames.
2) Depth scoring
As we saw in the Game 7s yesterday, depth scoring was a key factor. Flames have shown more depth and have the edge in this department. Who will the hero be tonight?
3) Home ice advantage
The Dome will be rocking tonight, and the C of Red will be turned up to 11. Oet-tin-gerrrrrrrrrrrr.
4) Sutter-time
Darryl Sutter came back to Calgary to win in the playoffs and chew bubblegum, and he’s all out of bubblegum. #unfinishedbusiness
5) BoA looms
If the hockey gods want a Battle of Alberta — and surely they do — it means a Flames win tonight will happen.
6) Johnny Hockey will not be denied
Johnny has taken his game to another level in the playoffs, silencing the doubters that said he would fade away in the postseason. He is, and will be the best player on the ice in the biggest game of the season.
7) Passing the ultimate test
The Flames have worked all season to get to this point by playing structured, consistent, disciplined hockey, which is the same way Sutter will want them to play tonight. Flames showed their mettle with their backs against the wall in Game 4 and coming from behind in Game 5, and surely learned from their mistakes in letting Game 6 slip away after tying it 2-2. They now have the ultimate test in a winner-takes-all Game 7, and as a team they will find a way to get the W. Because that’s when Sutter is impressed.
GFG.

It's time for the Flames to take a step. Win this game and then show the Oilers what playoff hockey is really like.

It's time for this team to put up or shut up. No excuses, no 'we got goalied', no blaming refs, or lucky bounces. There are only two outcomes: win, or not win.
Some of the teams in the past were flawed, some just didn't have the horses to get it done. But not this team...
They have the coach.
They have the goalie.
They have the depth and the talent.
They have been preparing all year for this.
Ok boys. Get. It. Done.

Flames vs. Oettinger, round 7. Here we go. Does the team have what it takes to get over the hump tonight?
Flames might be the only chance of defeating evil in round 2 and preventing the apocalypse, as nobody wants the Oilers in the conference finals. Hopefully the guys come out of the gate flying tonight and prove why they're one of the best teams in the league. A big statement game from the Flames' offence would be nice.

the entire country is behind calgary if for no other reason to see a BOA. the pressure the team is under is immense. the only way they lose today is if they fold under said pressure. this team is better than dallas in every category except a draw in net. just ####ing win.

Too many things can go wrong in a one game showdown, that’s the scary part.
I hope they finish the game being the better team….more shots, more chances, better execution, generally outplaying the Stars. If they do that they will likely win. But if Oettinger stands on his head, if the stars get a lucky break or 2, then there isn’t much you can do about that. It is a game of inches.
But go out there and outplay them and leave it all on the line.

After having Oettinger on my fantasy team this year, this is by far the longest stretch of good (great) games he's played. He's due to come back down to earth.
Lots of pressure & shots early and often on him please!

I stand by my prediction after that last game that we win this one. The Flames will impose their will on the stars tonight and show them who the dominant team is. It’s been a cute run Ottinger but your time is up. Just have a good feeling for some odd reason. 4-2 Flames.

Honestly I just want a good effort from them tonight.
Game 7s are always going to be a toss up, and really they might win and they might lose. That’s just how the NHL works when it comes down to a single game.
But please just actually show up with a strong effort.
