It’s stuff like this, when not consistent by the NHL, that only supports the “bias against the Flames” narrative and sorry but- tough to see how there isn’t.

NHL wants predefined outcomes. Game management, randomly suspending people when others do the same thing. It’s trending more to being like professional wrestling or sports cosplay than a professional sports league.

Inconsistencies like this from the NHL is why I find it harder and harder every year to take the time to watch games. Both the referees and the DOPS are ruining the NHL with their spin the wheel of justice.

If it were regular season, a game or 2 would be appropriate.

However, looking at where the line has been drawn by DOPS here in round one, how does that hit compare to Nurse's head butt (1 game) or Benn's stick in the face (fine)?

Nurse

Benn

Zadorov

If he is suspended as much as Nurse, and more than Benn, that is garbage from DOPS

Two standards of reffing: one for star players and one for players to be made an example of. This shouldn’t even be a hearing but I think the best we can hope for Zadorov is a fine.

I hope Treliving absolutely rips the department of safety publicly.

Time to go all in Tree. Support your team.

Johnny took a headshot. Tanev buried into the ice. Benn with multiple slewfoots. Benn purposefully highsticking Mangiapane.

There’s a very clear bias that should not remain behind the curtains.

You need consistent rules that apply to everyone equally, or you just become a joke.

The NHL is moving steadily towards becoming a joke.

Exactly, thinking that the Zadorov hit is anywhere close to deserving the same outcome as the Nurse head butt is just biased stupidity from the NHL. There is no standard. Bush league.

The worst thing about this is Zadorov didn't even target him, Zadorov turns that way to retrieve the puck. You can see it on how he positions his stick on the replays showing the puck going up the ice. He doesn't even take a stride into Glendening who had his head down and literally skates right into him. There was no intent.

How this is worse than anything we've seen that hasn't warranted a suspension is beyond me.

Looking at the replay at most you give Zadorov one game but really what should he have done differently? The head might have been the first point but right after it was contact with the chest. Zadorov at the time he was committing to the hit Glendening was turned to the side but his decision to pull up and dump the puck put Zadorov in the position where he did the only thing he could.

The league is only reacting this way because Bowness had a cryfest about it. They lack intestinal fortitude to stick to their guns. Weak by the league.

If he gets a game, can he appeal and play in G7? I assume not.

This is 1/10th the intent of Nurse. Danault not getting hurt (no idea how he didn't get cut let alone concussed) saved Nurse a few games but that shouldn't matter.

I agree, though I'd say the fundamentals of Zad's hit were cleaner than Trouba's, but size/speed were the bigger factors.

I don't think injury outcome should matter, but NHL says it does when it suits them. Crosby is out. Glendening returned.

Perhaps he could have made a play for the puck, but then it's a real roll of the dice how the collision turns out.

It wasn’t going to happen at all because Benn only fights guys two weight classes beneath him.

Koharski was talking like it’s the first time he has seen a violent hit

What a tool

It's not that Zad gets a suspension that's the worst part, where was the suspension on the Johnny hit or on Benn? Inconsistency in discipline on and off the ice is killing the league.

Agreed about the inconsistency. It makes the games worse to watch, both playoffs and regular season. Calls both ways often feel arbitrary rather than systematic.

I have no idea how this is any worse than Oshie's hit. I must be missing something.

It was the same as the hit on Gaudreau, a case of the player being 4 inches taller. 2 min penalty sure, but nothing more.
