I didn't even know this thing existed until just now. There's a chat built into the app I use to watch the games, so I'm generally not in the GTs anymore. Maybe sometimes during an intermission.
PGTs, whether (and how) I post or not depends on how emotional I am after the game. Luckily this season I've been way more pumped up after games than the opposite. My lowest was probably after game 3, when I was pretty much done with this team (and all of hockey for that matter). The way they played in that game reminded me so much of the Gulutzan team, I was so pissed off they suckered me in with yet another insane regular season only to end it with a "just kidding, we haven't really changed at all" reveal.
Anyway I think my point is that not everyone in the world thinks and communicates the same way. Some of us are fuled by emotion, and emotion can sometimes be a bitch. It's a constant struggle of being either too up or too down. So, you know, there's that.
As far as this wall thing is concerned, I haven't seen it, but I imagine it's just an Around the League but pointed at fellow Flames fans vs opposition fans. I do love the ATL, so I can't be too bothered about this new thing - except there's something about being a team. Like we're Flames fans, and as Flames fans we should have each other's backs, you know? This just seems like a segment of Flames fans trying to elevate themselves above the others, which isn't in itself a bad thing - we should all strive to evolve into something better - but if the only purpose of it is to make fun of the rest and/or produce an end result of everying thinking and reacting in the same way, then it's really the opposite of evolution.

I like this idea, because some of the over the top, insulting, hyperbolic trash that gets spewed 100% deserves to be called out.
However, after skimming the one the other day I noticed that many of the posts that were in it did not deserve that kind of treatment. They were merely accurate descriptions of what was going on the game to that point. Seems a little over the top if a poster can't comment about how the team isn't currently playing well and needs to improve without potentially being ridiculed for it.
It's like if you're sitting around watching the game with your buddies and the Flames are playing like crap and you say "man they look terrible, they really need to start attacking more, etc..." I don't see what is wrong a comment like that.
Stuff like "Gaudreau friggin sucks tonight, he's a total bum and a playoff no-show just like always. He ain't worth what he's going to get paid and the Flames should not even try to re-sign him. Total trash player"
Stuff like that needs to be ridiculed to no end.
The parameters of posts that qualifed were bumped for the second one. The idea was to grill all the unbeliever posts even if it was obvious that they weren't out of line and jinx posts as part of the joke, and to make the Wall appear more ridiculous.
It was clear after that one that the demand was more for the egregious or hyperbolic posts that are more ridicule-worthy, so that has been noted.
I'm still going to consider the odd iffy one if its funny to include, but not so much people describing the play at a bad moment any more.
People getting upset over the ice cream post and their shutout jinxes being included actually made me laugh.
I check the Game Day Thread and of course the Post Game Thread, but I don't go into the GT, I find it makes me extra anxious and takes away from watching the game, but to each their own.
So for me, the WOS doesn't really interest me which is why I just continue to scroll right along, I don't see the issue with it though. Maybe keeping the names of the posters anonymous is the way to go since clearly it's triggering a few of the more outspoken people on the GT.

I'm the same. I had no idea that it was a thing until I saw this thread in the main forum - I've certainly never clicked on one. I like the ATL because I'm not going searching other forums for commentary, so I see stuff I would otherwise not see.
The idea of re-posting a thread on a forum you are currently actually looking at seems like a waste of time to me...I'm certainly not going to bother reading a post of quotes of stuff that I've already read just a few minutes earlier. But people will do weird things to try to be one of the cool kids I guess. (Then posting a request asking for feedback on your "thing" is just kinda cringe.)

WoS is basically this:
I'm confused as to why you participate and follow along with the GTs but hardly go into the PGTs, unless we lose.
It is strange. From your history, you like blowing things out of proportion when things arent going well, but don't like to celebrate (HUGE) wins?
If you didn't know about WoS until this thread was made it tells me that you didn't touch the last two PGTs which were monumental wins for the Flames, because the WoS talk was rampant in both.
I mean you're clearly not an Oiler fan, but your Flames relationship/fandom is hard to figure out. You don't appear to enjoy their success nearly as much as running with an agenda to make sure poor moments are exaggerated whenever the chance is presented.
Like.. how do you not even skim through the most exciting PGTs in years?!
It seems you just relish manufacturing or perpetuating misery. I'm not judging that, some people are that way IRL, but you're truly an interesting case study as far as Flames fans go.
Edit: I'd love to hear a summary of your fandom and what got you into the Flames and CP. And what you do like about the team, if anything. I genuinely am curious.

That's a well though out post. I haven't put nearly as much thought into it as it seems you have. I just post what I think, I rarely go back and revisit conversations and I also rarely actually look at people quoting me. I spend a few seconds skimming what has happened since my last post to see if anything jumps out and then hit reply with whatever is on my mind. I'm not sitting there hitting refresh. I do look at the PGT for a few minutes and will throw a comment in there, but I barely have enough time to watch the games, and that's where the entertainment is.
I think there would be a lot less hand wringing over GT negativity if people just amended their negative posts with "so far" or "yet", or "in the last five minutes".
Revisiting GT posts is like waiting until midnight to tell someone they were wrong about the sun being bright at noon.
Edit: I'd love to hear a summary of your fandom and what got you into the Flames and CP. And what you do like about the team, if anything. I genuinely am curious.
Fair enough. I became a Flames fan in 1986 when they were playing the Oilers. I was a kid living in northern alberta at the time, in the middle of Oilers country, and I found the Oilers fans to be insufferable, even then. Watching Steve Smith score on himself live was one of the first defining moments of my Flames fan career and I preened the whole next day at school.
I've been a Flames fan ever since. But I'm not a cheerleader. And like other areas I demand excellence. So if I see anything less than excellent, I consider it a failure. I'm a tough crowd that way. Me identifying less-than-excellent as unacceptable probably gets interpreted as negativity. Perhaps that's a fair characterization, that's up to others to decide.
I've sat through a lot of mediocrity over the years with the Flames.

Thanks for providing some insight.
So its a case of coming on when you have something on your mind, typing it out without putting much thought in, and not really reading or considering the responses people have to you?
I mean maybe that's a good thing. Ignorance is bliss.
There are alternatively some posters on here who care maybe a little too much how they/their posts are perceived here and what their reputation is.
The WoS is actually pretty funny of you're truly care-free about it.
You're providing some A+ material, so as far as I'm concerned just keep on being you man. Definitely not knocking it, even though I probably will never get it.

Great summary.
I like it. So you're just a tough grader then. You know what, that's just fine.
Cheers on rebelling against the insufferable No Goods as a young man in Northern AB and the Steve Smith own goal nugget. That was awesome.
I find it very hard to believe BoLevi just learned about the WOS in this thread. If you are going to say things like the series is a waste of time and Sutter is being out coached don't be shocked when people quote it for ridiculousness. If you don't say it they can't quote it, it's not like he's making things up.

I would say exactly that. A GT is really a group stream of consciousness as much as anything. And that can be interesting and entertaining in its won right - which you seem to have discovered. Usually when people disagree in a GT thread the response isn't constructive anyway.
I genuinely don't understand people getting upset at hot takes in a GT. If that actually bothers people then I suggest that they are taking things too seriously. It's just a game played by grown men being discussed on the internet. I really hope forum posts don't impact peoples' moods. That's a depressing thought.
I will also add that I'm just a fan. I'm not even very knowledgeable about hockey - which I am sure is regularly made obvious. Everything I say comes from a layman's perspective and I would be the first one to tell people to take my comments with a grain of salt. I bet I'm in the bottom 10% of hockey knowledge on this site. So if people are annoyed by my comments in the GT, then they should certainly be aware of that.
I know people IRL who approach their fandom just like BoLevi, the way he has described it above.
I guess he's just a different breed of fan from most of us.
That doesn't spare his takes from the judgment of The Wall, however.
No one is exempt.
If you're putting something out there in the public, it would be completely disingenuous to be annoyed by how people are using it. It wouldn't occur to me to be annoyed by someone using a quote from me in whichever way they choose. I still won't have the time to read it though!

The worst thing to happen to CP was the like feature. It’s like all social media in that regard and culminates in groupthink and the kind of bullying Lanny is suggesting. The like feature is far more dangerous to the type of discourse he wants to see and far more encouraging to foster a “cool kids” atmosphere. I don’t think the WoS has or will have the same effect.
I think the main thing the "Thanks" feature does is eliminates the need for redundant posts. If someone else has already said what you were going to, you don't quote it with "great post, I agree", you just hit "Thanks" and go on with your life. Yeah, if you have a bad take you might get roasted for likes, but at least it's not a pile-on that clutters up the site with a bunch of individual posts.

Unless someone scores a goal, after which you will get multiple posts of any variation of the player's name or nickname in all caps with exclamation points.
