I don’t think there needs to be a rule as to how those are expressed. And I don’t think the WoS does that either. I think it’s funny and concurrently think Lanny has a valid point, both can be true.

CP has been awesome for people just giving opinions and I genuinely don’t think some WoS is going to change that, so the counter to Lanny is just that- this isn’t going to change anything I don’t think.

The worst thing to happen to CP was the like feature. It’s like all social media in that regard and culminates in groupthink and the kind of bullying Lanny is suggesting. The like feature is far more dangerous to the type of discourse he wants to see and far more encouraging to foster a “cool kids” atmosphere. I don’t think the WoS has or will have the same effect.

Replace the word "rule" with "norm"

It's not a rule to be positive.

However to expect a fan forum to be neutral is silly ... being a fan in almost any definition suggests blind faith and bias.

Still getting a kick out of the people fighting the hardest against the idea ...

I don't have much to add except this...

I had a really low moment when this team (I think under Gulutzan) look abysmal with no hope in sight. I can't remember exactly what spurred this, but I started a PGT and asked the mods to change my name to Cali Panthers Fan instead of Cali Flames Fan. It was meant in jest, just to illustrate how frustrated I was, but the mods called my bluff and changed it overnight.

After that, I learned my lesson about over the top hyperbolic negative posts. I suggest that constantly being put on the WoS would do the same for others without permanent effects like username changes.

What’s the big deal? I looked at it once and it was basically a repost of almost an entire GT hidden behind a spoiler tag. If you crazy kids want to take the time to put that together and then also spend your time rereading what you just participated in get wild. Everyone’s gotta get their kicks somehow.

I don’t look at the wall of shame as a big deal. I just don’t get it, and don’t find it constructive.

I don’t particularly care for the GTs, and I don’t particularly care for when people dig up the posting history of others, it’s often more petty than anything

Some guy mentioned in another thread he hoped it would make GTs great again. I used the analogy in another thread that it’s like rummaging through the black bins in the alley, pulling out the trash you find interesting, and having a yard sale, hoping it will make your neighbourhood great

It doesn’t upset me in any way, I just don’t understand why someone would want to spend their time curating garbage

Maybe it’s just one of these situations

As I've said I personally don't care much about it, I don't go near GTs because of the over reactions and negativity.

But this isn't about attention from what I'm reading.

It's about people sick of the GTs turning into a cesspool and wanting to direct attention on those that make it inhabitable.

If its from HF Oilers you call it gold. If it's from us you call it garbage.

Some recognize that we actually pump out quite a bit of gold ourselves.

The way I see it, it helps us develop some self awareness here, we get a laugh out of it (some of us), and it gets everybody involved in a way that's ultimately harmless ..if you don't take yourself too seriously.

The pushback is becoming the icing on top though.

And it is. I said I'd welcome feedback as long as it wasn't coming from a personal (or i guess, reactive) place.

Posts saying 'I don't like it' are perfectly fine. Some have offered alternative formats and I may make adjustments with some of those thoughts in mind.

The people saying its a gross violation of forum rights and that its attention seeking are clearly just being reactionary, probably because they made the list, don't understand the humour angle, or are just a little too easy to upset.

I’m mostly a lurker on this site, but do follow the GTs and PGTs fairly often, as I don’t get to watch as many games as I used to.

My view is that the first WoS was great. This place got so negative after games 2 and 3 that the WoS seemed like a well-timed release valve to look back and (gently) mock some of the more over-the-top takes. I disagree with those who view it as a personal attack on those posters, or think it’s meant to stifle opposing viewpoints. Some of the negative views were so hyperbolic, and there was no room for reason (for example, when Bingo or others posted stats that showed the situation was as bleak as some posters were making it out to be). The point of the first WoS (IMO) was not to mock or discourage those making thoughtful criticisms, but hold up a mirror to those over the top negative posts.

That said, I’m not sure about it as a fixture going forward. Certainly, if it continues, I’m with those that think it needs to be more focussed on hyperbolic takes, rather than the ups and downs of emotions that fans feel during a game or small comments about missed plays. But it might be more effective as an occasional event when we need that release after a spell of negativity.

I like this idea, because some of the over the top, insulting, hyperbolic trash that gets spewed 100% deserves to be called out.

However, after skimming the one the other day I noticed that many of the posts that were in it did not deserve that kind of treatment. They were merely accurate descriptions of what was going on the game to that point. Seems a little over the top if a poster can't comment about how the team isn't currently playing well and needs to improve without potentially being ridiculed for it.

It's like if you're sitting around watching the game with your buddies and the Flames are playing like crap and you say "man they look terrible, they really need to start attacking more, etc..." I don't see what is wrong a comment like that.

Stuff like "Gaudreau friggin sucks tonight, he's a total bum and a playoff no-show just like always. He ain't worth what he's going to get paid and the Flames should not even try to re-sign him. Total trash player"

Stuff like that needs to be ridiculed to no end.
