Never good when a reference is made to one of the dirtiest NHL players of all time.

Even in the old days, by old days standards, those were dirty hits. But the NHL thought it was good for selling the game so didn't punish players.
9/10 of his hits were with the elbow and late. Doesn't matter what era it is, that's a dirty hit.
Poor Paul.

Don’t you mean “Eat another donut”? Of all the ex officials to have on a panel, Koharski about the worst.

Carter Verhaeghe now tied with Cale Makar for the playoff scoring lead. 10 points in 5 games. 5 points in last night's game. Impressive.

I will say - a Leafs/Panthers series would be mayhem since both teams are more than willing to go to run and gun

Scott Stevens wasnt a dirty player. He played by the rules.
Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Nope I hate the player. One of the dirtiest players to ever play the game. I have zero respect for players that purposely ended the careers of others.

What a crazy good team built out of a lot of rejects.
Verhaeghe -- TB 4th liner / healthy scratch
Bennett -- Calgary 4th liner / healthy scratch
Duclair -- Bounced around 5 different teams
That's half of their top six. And also
Hornqvist -- Too expensive for Pitt
Forsling -- Out of the league for a year, nobody wanted him

Forsling and Verhaege are the real gems that Zito found. The former he picked up from the waivers and has been their second best D behind Ekblad, even better than Weegar who has actually regressed this year. Verhaege signed as an UFA to a 2 x 1 million deal and is a better version of Coleman, great two-way game and has really good finish. Also should add Marchment to the list.

Not to turn this into a Bennett discussion - but trading a 2nd and a prospect for a guy doesn't scream reject.

Let's wrap this thread, shall we?
Verhaeghe in OT wins the series for the Panthers. 4-2.
First series win since 1996. It's been a long time coming.
Washington was a very game opponent, but the better team won.

Sam Bennett was born 19 days after the Panthers won the Eastern Conference Finals in 1996 and 10 days after the Avs lifted the Cup.

The Lightning won't hesitate to play run and gun.

"The Capitals got there in 2018, winning the organization's first Stanley Cup title. They have not won a playoff series since and got knocked out in the first round at home for the third time in that span."
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...-second-round/
This is a similar path the Flames went on after winning the SC in 1989.
