Yes, I know I’m asking too much of the league.

Scary thing is that could work. Imagine if the coach actually told all his players to dive as much as they can and sell every call… the sole purpose of every player not named McDavid or Draisaitl is to get those two a chance on the powerplay. Period. Complete, unashamed diving non-stop. What’s the worst that will happen to them? They get a diving call and it goes to four-on-four. What’s more, how often have you seen more than one diving call in a single game? I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever seen a team called for it more than once in a game… even if they continue to dive.
The oilers have made it pretty clear they cannot win this series at 5-on-5. They’re facing elimination and their golden gooses need powerplays to have a chance. I am predicting the most unashamed spectacle of diving the NHL has ever seen from a team in game 6 of this series. It’s going to be embarrassing.
I hope it doesn’t work and we can all bask in the joy of the oilers getting eliminated on Thursday. Go Kings!

Should be 5. I mean how can you explain that one away?
Will likely be 1.

That would be quite the pickle for the league if the Kings did that… how could you punish one player differently after setting a precedent in the previous game? Imagine McDavid getting that exact same head-butt and a fine is all that’s given for it.

That is the most egregious head butt in the NHL in a very long time - I can't even remember the last one that was as bad. It should be 5 games, even for a first time offender, but of course there is no chance of that.
Three games would be great, and 2 games would be fine. But I am guessing it will be one game, which simply isn't enough.

Friedman was discussing this morning that Nurse better have a good explanation to avoid suspension. I have looked at the replay numerous times and I just don't see what excuse he can make as it's clear he's looking at the player while springing his upper body, helmet first up into the face of the Kings player. I simply don't see what excuse he could make that it wasn't intentional.

Agreed. The difference between this one and Buchnevich's is that Buchnevich basically head nods the head butt, using his neck muscles. Nurse drives up and through with his leg muscles, which is far more powerful and dangerous of a head butt.

Its just so hilariously obvious. Of the handful of headbutts I can remember theyre usually in a close quarters scrum where you're not really sure what happened, but after watching it 4 times you realize that yeah its kind of a headbutt.
This he looked like a freaking mountain goat launching his head like he had invisible handcuffs on or something. Its bizzare. Was he thinking "If I throw a punch, they'll probably see it, I have an idea! Flying headbutt!"
The no injury part has me guessing this is going to be a 10k fine or something.

Not only all of that, but before the head butt incident he took a 2 handed swing at Danault which broke his stick. You can see it fall apart during the headbutt So it wasn't a single isolated event, he was on a rampage for some reason.

yeah the context is important , I think. and yet the panel found now evidence of intent
and this was what? a minute or two tops after the Kane/Kassian antics?

You know some others who better have a good explanation? Friedman and the rest of the panel last night for their comments, or lack thereof, on the head butt.

I would really like to know if it is the producer or Maclean or someone else that is really driving the Oiler narrative. It isn't like viewers don't know it is happening. I get they want a marquee player playing, but that team is atrocious and isn't remotely built for the playoffs. Maybe if they Leah Hextall'ed it, and had some intellectual honesty, if would force the Oilers to get better. Rather than try to push a narrative that helps the team (i.e. playoff penalty standard) or not bring up circumstances in game that by calling it out, would negatively impact the oilers.

The SN Oiler bias has gone too far...Nurse with that dirty headbutt and during the intermission they are crying about a tug on a jersey not being called.
How many times have we seen the Flames with a very minor incident and they are going on about suspensions ect. on the panel. That is by far the dirties play of the playoffs and they just gloss over it. They spent a year crying about the Oilers not getting calls but don't say a word about that. Imagine McDavid takes a headbutt like that?

Ironically it's a negative feedback loop. The Oilers lean on (or incentivize) the media to be positive. At least parts of the fan base buy what the media are selling. (I know some parts of the fanbase have acknowledged these systemic issues for decades and are frustrated that they still linger.)
Then the Oilers continually fail to acknowledge or realize the systemic problems with their team, likely in part due to a feeling that everyone is loving what is going on. "Fans are happy, media is happy, why change a good thing?"
Works for me.

Correct.
In a vacuum: 5 game suspension
+ Playoff discount: 2 game suspension
+ McTeam discount: 1 game suspension

2 games . One the vicious 2 handed slash before the headbutt then the headbutt. Hard to argue no intent after 2 handing a guy.
