When Marleau came into the league, I think I still had dial up internet from Cadvision.

Started in 1997. My god. That's a 25 year career playing professional hockey at the highest level. That's pretty impressive. Who cares that he was essentially a 4th liner these last couple of seasons. He had 15 20+ goal seasons and over 30 goals in 7 seasons (one over 40)

In 1997 I spent $2500 on a 32 inch 250 lb Sony Wega and bought my first townhouse in Dalhousie for $81,000....

oh i also signed up Shaw highspeed and all my friends thought I was insane to pay $40/month for internet.

I had a Shaw Wave modem as well at 5mbps. It was epic, until I realized Warcraft supported dial up and LAN only. Doh.

I started driving 3 days after he played his first game!

Great player and one hell of a career. It doesn’t feel like anyone is gonna break his games played record, but anything is possible

Flames make an epic comeback to go up 2-1 in the series, then they're leading game 4 late in the 3rd and in arms reach of a 3-1 series stranglehold. But then they gave up 2 quick goals, lost the game and never got their mojo back. Game 3 went from a possible all-time series turning point to a nice highlight package

Also hearing Vlasic's name in that video is giving me PTSD, as I remember him being huge in that series like so many other young guys against the Flames in the playoffs. Getzlaf/Perry in 06, Vlasic in 08, Kane/Towes in 09, MacKinnon/Makar in 19, now finally Oettinger this year. I'm so tired of young stars making a name for themselves against Calgary

If longevity is a HOF credential maybe. If not then no. Still a good player though and a lot of really good players don't make the HOF.

One series out of several in memory where we were let down by goaltending in the final game of the series.

The Sharks franchise have no retired numbers (other than the league-wide Gretzky 99).

Number 12 is likely the first to be beatified.

I don’t think so. He was great but not on that tier that separated him so far apart from his peers. His all-time games record is the only case he has to be in the HOF. He never won any hardware

Yes easily because he's exactly the kind of player the selection committee likes. He'll get in on the games played thing alone. They love those kinds of things.

Now does he legitimately deserve it? Probably not. But the HHOF is a hall of very good so...

2 Olympic Gold Medals, a World Championship, a World Cup, nominated twice for the Lady Byng, 3 time All Star, most games played in the NHL, nearly 1200 points over a 25 year professional career and holding almost every San Jose franchise record.

He's heading to the Hall.
