Trotz is a great coach, any team would be lucky to have him.

I have to think Vegas will fire their bench boss and Trotz will be their #1 target, and he'd be happy to go there.

They just re-signed their GM.

Maybe. I think that the shine has worn off that franchise with the way that they have treated many players and staff. Trotz has his choice of places.

If the Flyers hired Trotz, I think it would result in a hilariously large improvement in defense, goaltending, and overall team success.

I don't know if Trotz would want to go to a team they performed that poorly. But they do have a lot of pieces.

Surprising. But not worried about Trotz. He will keep forging ahead.

Top coaches not coaching.

I can't see JQ ever coaching in the NHL again. I think Torts is pretty happy with where he's at as a Hockey talking head as well.

Maybe the Pugsley Addams Trophy instead.

Lamoriello has a history of firing coaches under strange circumstances. I just don't see how another coach is going to get more out of that roster which really isn't very good.

Besides being from Manitoba, Winnipeg would probably be a good fit for him and the Jets.

He won 25 actual playoff games in his four years there. It takes our franchise a good fifteen to twenty years to get to that kind of number.

Probably less about results than clashing with LL I'd imagine.

I know it's not you... but just a comment or belief you have, and it's valid, but I have to ask why?

I know Bettman needs to approve his return to the NHL... but what exactly did Quenneville do? Let me put this into prospective, after winning round 3 of the playoffs in 2010 (over 11 years before his dismissal), and during this exciting and stressful time for a coach and his team, he went into a quick meeting where he was only a minor decision maker (if at all - they just wanted his input) and quickly expressed his concern for changing anything before the finals, I might add, that there was no one in imminent or continually danger from this decision and that the person and crimes were immediately addressed after the finals.

Just a background story, I was questioning a police officer on a ride-along why and accident with potential minor injuries only was of a higher priority (call wise) then that of a murder. He said, "because the person was already dead". So I ask you all this, if the deed(s) was already done, and no one was in further danger, and if the police don't even act as fast as we expected Quenneville to act... why is he being treated like this. Yes the situation was bad and in a perfect world, Quenneville would have sacrificed everything his team worked for up to that point to get "justice"...(all while only being someone brought into the knowledge of the act in one meeting and being too busy to be the primary decision maker) but we don't even expect police departments to do this, often times when they investigate a crime, they sacrifice arresting someone until they collect enough evidence to help in their convictions, especially if no one is threatened by them in doing so.

So I think JQ needs a little forgiveness here, we all do things that are wrong, we all regret something we've done or not done, I'm just hoping I get some forgiveness when I require it too and hopefully I don't step this badly in it and I'm big enough to go against the current and stand up for my moral convictions, but I tell you, it's hard, even on here, getting smacked down for doing or stating "the right thing". These past few years, we've judged people for making different choices then we've made, even when we didn't fully understand (and could never fully understand) why exactly they made those decisions - we've judge them, unfairly, even when in the future, the decisions they've made will be proven to be the correct one (will we apologize, or just double down).

^^ Methinks you are glossing over the situation at the meeting and where they were in the process. But aside from that, Quenneville brushed it off in the investigation and pretty much lied about his own involvement. I don't see a whole lot of regret in his comments either.

He doesn't need to be the GM, maybe an AGM role or something. Has that ever been done with a coach who is also the AGM?

A bunch of these available top coaches may still be living off the previous team and are in a position to really pick and choose, and money may have a lot to do with that choice. Heck, some may be content to pursue other things. And as was said some are still toxic at the moment.

i wonder who lou will hire that is better than barry?

this is a puzzling firing for sure, but this is Lou doing this, so maybe that removes the puzzling part and jsut makes the firing somewhat surprising.

Will be interesting to see how long Trotz waits to take another job. Does Vancouver proactively contact him and risk annoying Bruce B and then potentially being stuck with having to sift thru candidates to hire someone?

Yeah, except for the kid(s) he molested afterwards that Quennville's coverup helped facilitate and any Blackhawk blackace that Aldrich tried to assault before he got to resign after the season.
