But I can't see WHY they are in Ukraine at all, and why they are sticking with it after losing literal BILLIONS of dollars worth of equipment. For what? Not to mention the sanctions that will carry on.

Ukraine releases another video of the Bayraktar destroying a Russian ship. This time a Serna-class landing craft at Snake Island. The ship was reportedly supplying TOR anti-aircraft missiles to the island.

Video also shows video of a building on the island getting hit.

Lost ships are likely the worst losses for Russia. They're effectively impossibly to replace, as Turkey is not allowing Russian warships to be moved to the Black Sea.

All women, children and older adults have been evacuated from a steel mill long besieged by Russian forces in the southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, Ukraine's deputy prime minister said on Saturday.


"The president's order has been carried out: All women, children and the elderly have been evacuated from Azovstal," Iryna Veheshchuk said. "This part of the Mariupol humanitarian operation has been completed."

Some of the plant's previous evacuees spoke to the AP about the horrors of being surrounded by death in the mouldy underground bunker with little food and water, poor medical care and diminishing hope. Some said they felt guilty for leaving others behind.

The SAM was Bayraktared a couple days ago. The replacement was on the landing ship that was posted by sureloss.

MOD and map updates. Russians continuing their futile attacks over the last few days in Izyum, Kherson, Mariupol, and Severodonetsk with only minor confirmed gains west of Izyum.

Ukrainians are continuing their broad counter offensive to push Russians out of artillery range to the north and east of Kharkiv and have made moderate gains Staryi Saltiv area.

Fighting in other areas has been limited. All women, children and elderly have now been evacuated from the Azovstal plant area as per AP.

my guess is they were relying on having a large naval asset near by to provide anti air cover, a frigate or something, you know like the Admiral Makerov, that would provide excellent air defense if it was close by and not on fire

Well obviously that too, but short term Russia has more than enough ships for this conflict. They just can't move them to where the war is being fought.
