I think there are many that see the injustice but their own prejudice makes them resistant to defend freedom of religion.

Interesting new initiative to show support for the Calgary Police Service called 'Beacons of Hope':

"Inspiring Calgarians to reflect, engage and acknowledge the contributions that Calgary Police Service members make each and every day to keep us all safe."

Nobody fall for it! They're trying to get Calgarians to wear blue on May 14, 2022 which just so happens to be when Game 7 of the Kings vs Oilers is scheduled.

I am very confident this will present no issue whatsoever.

Lol...as far as conspiracies go this one is pretty tame albeit plausible in terms of execution.

This is kind of a generic issue and I'm sorry my question probably seems horrifically stupid, but where does CPS step in in transit-related matters? It's become so much more unsafe the past year or so, and I'm curious if it's left mostly to transit peace officers to look after all of this or if CPS gets involved.

It's mostly left to Transit security. If they need help, they'll call. Transit security has pretty much all the tools and authority they need to do the job, just lack the manpower (as I'm given to understand it).

With the lack of manpower, I think it's time to get rid of the free fare zone and you need a ticket to enter the station like 90% of trains/subways around the world.

That would suck.

Why do you think it would help given the lack of manpower. If you can’t enforce no drunk people hanging out on the train what good is requiring a ticket going to do.

It’s easy to jump turn styles so unless you go full on 8 foot fences and gates you don’t solve the problem. And personally I’d prefer not to turn downtown stations into Berlin checkpoints.

I think the problem is lack of ridership creating less presence of people in general rather than a lack of security.

What would be the point, and who would pay for that? Unless serious mobility issues, people would just walk. It’s not like the free fare zone is that expansive that it’s worth burning a ticket on.

You'd have to overhaul the ticketing system and go with loaded cards which subtract station to station. Most regular users have bus passes and otherwise you'd have a loaded card on your phone.

We've taken the subway in big cities. Without a pass, you cant even go underground. Why is our CTrain becoming a moving landfill?

Calling homeless people human garbage is pretty gross.

But that aside what you seem to be proposing is putting walls, fences and gates around each terminal. The openness of our system especially where it is downtown and aboveground is a benefit to the street scape

And if you notice those other cities New York and Sanfranciso still have homeless people, drunks, and addics on trains.

I didn't mean the people were garbage. There is literally garbage and urine on the train. I was at the 69th street parking garage and it was like a bomb went off.

I apologize if it came off that way.

But what does that have to do with the free fare zone? People do gross stuff and litter departing from other stations.

But the sketchiness is happening at all times of day and ridership levels. I doubt the off-their-heads addicts getting onto cars with 20 people on them reeling and ranting would refrain if the car had 40 people on it.

Maybe we haven’t noticed the decline because it has been gradual. And I expect a lot of Calgarians, including councillors, don’t use transit to see how bad it has become. A friend who grew up in this city and worked downtown through most of his working life went to Europe 15 years go and lived in several major cities. On his return to Calgary two years ago he was astonished at how seedy the city has become. He locked up his bike at train stations every day on his commutes for 13 years in Europe and didn’t have a problem. Second day his bike was locked up at a Calgary C-Train station it was stolen.

Lol at anyone calling Calgary seedy.

And omg a bike stolen? That doesn’t happen in Europe!

That sounds like a story from someone who has never been to Europe. In Rome the thieves will walk up to tourists and steal the jewelry off your neck. Never mind some crappy bike.

You’re right. My friend must have been lying. I wonder what his game is?
