all of the goodwill this team has built up since October...gone in less than 60 minutes of play. this is as shameful a PGT as there has ever been.

It’s not so mich that we are tied 1-1, it’s 1 goal in six periods of play with 3 40 goal scorers, one 35 goal scorer, and two players over 100 points, one of them in Hart trophy conversation. Like a lot of posters have said until they prove us wrong and win a round the monkey will be on their back.
That being said I’m going to try and enjoy the rest of the series as mich as I can and hope others can too.

For Gaudreau, he can find the open trailer, it gives his linemates time to go hard to the net to set up a screen, it gives the defense time to jump in to the play to use those screens, he cut east to west like we saw against the Oilers. In general, it can create a little more chaos in the coverage and open up space for him to be able to survey his options.
|
The move itself is fine, but he goes to it too much in the playoffs. He doesn't carry the puck as long as usual and makes what often look like panic passes or panic button hooks to avoid contact.
His game looks predictable compared to the regular season and we've seen this in every playoffs before.
I'm not crapping on Johnny here, he's our best player and one of my all time favorites.
But it's very clear that he doesn't get as much space in the playoffs (to be expected) and has to adapt his game.
I do think he'll figure it out, but there's clearly adjustments needed and I look forward to watching him make those.

More or less.
Just giving all the rival fans a show going from 0 to 100 over one loss that was about as marginal as you can get in an nhl game.
Even if they go deep, there will be a handful of other losses. I hope we get our #### together better than this.

They tried that for 30 regular season minutes and it pretty much tanked the top line ... Tkachuk got Backlund going for sure, but I think Lindholm/Gaudreau took a big step back.
I'd get Coleman back with Backlund, that line ran the show. Didn't fill the net but dominated.
Then home that Toffoli can work with Jarnkrok and an improved Dube.

As both Sutter and Johnny said, the scoring chances were definitely there. They just didn't capitalize. Most of those chances would have found the back of the net a week ago, but Oettinger appears to be in their heads a bit and they looked like they were over-thinking things and gripping their sticks as a result.
Flames need to make his life more difficult in game 3. Find a way to get their sticks on some of those juicy rebounds he was giving up, bang a couple of those in, and we'll be fine. Also, maybe try passing on some of those 2 on 1s instead of just constantly firing the puck into his chest. Force him to move more.

No monkeys will be on their backs unless people keep ####ing talking about it.
It was like the Anaheim curse. I think it only went on as long as it did just because people WOULDN'T. STOP. talking about it every time they went there.
I hope the team is blocking out all the debbie downer historians and Sutter is being as even keel as possible.
All those stats you mention should tell you that they'll break out any minute. If we didn't have 30 and 40 goal scorers wouldn't that be more concerning?
Chilling out is exactly what every one needs to do.

I would like to see Lucic and Tkachuk in front of the net more next game, making it hard on Oettinger and stirring things up a bit. Lucic especially I would like to see using his size and strength in front of the net to unsettle Dallas's defensive shell.

I think we have secured most insecure, ill informed fans base again.

Ill informed? I think that belongs to the fanbase up the highway.
I'd say most pessimistic and fearful fanbase.
Equating the past to the future when virtually everything about the team's construction and approach has changed is just plain silly.

Your last paragraph is the basis for how ill informed this fan base is. Do they think that Toffoli is a playoff mental midget because he joined the Flames. Just ludicrous stuff in this thread.

Taking any and all mention of the score in the post game threads for game one and two, and going by the tone of the comments, I've learned that the Flames clearly won game one by a dozen goals or so, but lost game two by a good two dozen and probably they should try something completely, totally different for game three line combos, like Kylington, Tanev, and Stone out for the first line and power play forwards.

It's shameful to be worried that the Flames aren't playing as well as we know they can?
That's an interesting take.

That's a fair point, but I think the ill informed ones are just a minority that are particularly pessimistic despite plenty of evidence that there isn't reason to be. It's more willful ignorance.
Coleman was an integral scorer for the last two cup teams.
Toffoli was the second leading scorer in the run for the SCF Habs just months ago.
Jarnkrok has been an integral part of Nashville's depth on several playoff runs.
Tanev has played virtually mistake-free hockey through two games.
Markstrom looks top notch and made several high difficult saves when the Flames opened it up and took chances.
Mangiapane just dragged team canada almost single handedly to a WC championship.
The team is so much better set up to do damage than it ever has been.
