I guess I wasn't clear in my point.

I get the late start times are for a "true" double header, and that essentially there are channels earmarked for the late games if the early ones run late.

My point is, in the Era of digital television, with 6 SportsNet channels, City TV, and countless CBC channels... is a true double header even needed anymore?

In 1995 when I had CBC, sure a true double header as there was no other way for me to watch the late game at 10. But now, now who cares? Cut the early game early on SN West and have the Flames game start at 7:00 Mountain.

I don't think the need for a true double header is really warranted.

I think it’s because ESPN/tbs/tnt don’t have enough channels to accommodate and want to show as close to full games as they can.

SN Now running thru my xbox has been borderline unwatchable the jitter is so bad. Feels like im watching with a very poor refresh rate. Anyone else have this issue? No, its not a internet service issue.

Issue is it sucks

I wonder if Rogers/Shaw have a deal to make streaming sports suck so bad so people keep their cable. Worked on me TBH.

It makes zero sense that some random started a streaming site that works 10x better.

Why would Sportnet Pacific not cover a “PACIFIC DIVISION” Canadian team in this situation... ridiculous!!

You still think the Flames are a Canadian team? That's so cute.

If you are there on time, it allows you to "Watch Live" even if it's not on your channel, as long as you have rights to do so.

I'll say, that SN-NOW started off clunky and troublesome, but the past few months it seems to be very reliable.
SN Now used to be great, solid 60fps streams with no drops. Now however it's stuck at 30fps which absolutely sucks for hockey, and it's often paired with stuttering or buffering. The only good ways to stream hockey now are either Gamecenter paired with a VPN or illegal streaming sites. It's absolutely ridiculous that a pirate stream can provided a steady 1080p 60fps stream while Sportsnet charges you for 720p 30fps

Anyone else have issues streaming the GameCentre feed from their phone to a Chromecast?

Same thing with MLB.tv, from a laptop no problem, perfect, HD feed. Stream from a phone, or iPad it buffers, and stalls every few seconds or so.

That's the weird part about the ESPN contract is that all of the games were on ESPN+ this year until the playoffs and then I had to use my Hulu Live to actually get the games. I got some sort of error on ESPN+ saying I didn't have access through it for the game.

I feel like we're in the last throws of cable control of sports. The streaming app model can't take over soon enough. It really alleviates all of these channel restrictions leading to late start issues.

Of course it is. If games overlap, any given viewer will pick one… and will miss all the commercials in the other.

The last thing Sportsnet wants is to explain to advertisers why it is competing against itself for viewers.

Weird - I have a buddy in BC who watched the whole game on TV and I know he only gets SN Pacific...and not SNW....didn't have any trouble at all. Most time he's sitting with Mario and I'm live, so I have to "not cheer" too soon, LOL.

(Hint to Flames fans living in BC: get satellite TV and register it to an Alberta address. Do a self-install. Watch Flames all the time. The satellites have no idea where you are located. Or, of course, our Penguin pal.)

You shouldn't use pirate sites.

Even if they have all the game. And they start on time, end on time, and there are no commercials. Don't use them. Even if there is a bad broadcaster you don't like, you shouldn't switch to the away feed. Just because it's free and you were forced to use it because they blacked out the games you paid for, doesn't mean you should use it.

Just because ESPN+ decided at the start of the playoffs that you needed to have a "cable provider" to watch the first 2 rounds doesn't make it ok to use a pirate site.

Even though you would happily pay whatever to watch the game legally, and you can't, you shouldn't use a pirate site.

Even if it's a much higher quality product, and free, you shouldn't do it. Don't use pirate sites.

Yup I have the exact same issue when streaming from phone to a Chromecast. Unwatchable actually as it's too annoying. I use my PS4 now and the NHL app there instead which works.

Will it though?

I'd be curious to know how many people watch the same channel game 1 through game 2 start to finish. Especially on a weeknight.

Game 1 I went to bed after the 1st, if the game started an hour earlier I'd be more likely to watch the whole game.

Also, I didn't watch the early game. I watched baseball then switched over.

Sure you get channel surfers but the start time is irrelevant as they're surfing.

In 2022 I honestly don't think viewership works the way your suggesting anymore (but will concede if I'm wrong, and will concede that though I personally don't like it, it's the right way to go).

Yup, had this issue forever. It's unwatchable, skips/buffers every 10-20 seconds. I have been pulling up the game on Chrome on my computer and casting the tab to my Chromecast. The picture quality is worse than casting from the app, but at least it doesn't stutter.

Yeah I can't find a solution.

Well other than using a laptop.

They had the Avs game on ESPNU when the Penguins/Rangers went long Tues, and there are a few more ESPN channels too.
