My two cents;

Do the wave or not, whatever. But it does kind of pour cold water on this idea that Canadians are some form of higher evolved hockey fan. The dumb Americans pound on the glass while the hockey smart Canadians do the wave while the home team tries to hold a one goal lead late in a playoff game.

Also, Flames played well and deserved to win. But remember that scene in Tin Cup when Roy nails his approach on 18 and says "it's there", but then feels a little bit of wind blow? The lack of offence from the first line is that slight breeze. I don't want that to become an issue.

Agreed, and Sutter is the master of saying the right things to the media. On the flip side, unless there are voices inside his head, I don't know who was telling Bowness the Flames were going to "run them out of the building". Especially considering the aforementioned media bias which paints the Flames as some fluke team that made the playoffs in spite of itself.

I find it hard to believe the Stars only had three shots in the third. I was sweating the entire last ten minutes lol

Dallas didnt get a shot on goal after the wave. They had 16 before it started.

You anti wave people need to check the facts. It's obviously the reason we won.

Well that's my point, the Flames played good defense.

But every team has some players, even the non-playoff ones. Dallas is very much a one line team and it showed.

The fourth line was outstanding, pinning Dallas in their own end.

I found it soooo hot in the Dome last night, will be interesting if there’s anything they can do to cool it down for Thursday.

Yeah the top line was invisible five on five. They literally generated nothing.

To put it in perspective ...

Top line averaged a xGF last night of 0.09 ... less than 10% of a five on five goal.

On the season they averaged 0.79 xGF per game, and didn't have a single night at the 0.09 level. Their worst game in the regular season was the Nov 11th game in Montreal at 0.17.

So yeah ... I hear you, and the breeze comment.

Other way to look at it though ... Flames are up 1-0 with their top line playing their worst five on five game of the year! Like the odds of them improving from rock bottom.

“There will be no passes through the centre of the ice”
Flames pass to an open centre who skates out of the zone.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind Greg or Hrudey for that matter but CBC / Rogers was amateur hour tonight. I was out in Vancouver tonight watching the game at my in-laws and had to watch it on my laptop because CBC took the triple overtime Pens vs Rangers game to the end. I assume CBC Calgary picked up the SNW feed but kind of ####ty if you were in another province and wanted to watch the Canadian team with the statistical best chance of going to the finals in action tonight. National broadcaster and they picked two American teams? Wtf?

Post game was severely lacking too. 30 seconds of panel and off to the SN highlight reel crew.
I'm in Victoria and have the cheap $25 cable but they still allow me to watch on Sportsnet West. It's just in the higher channels.

I’m not superstitious at all, highly doubt the wave affects the game itself, players are in the zone and not paying attention to the fans during play. I’m at the game to watch the game, the wave blocks my view in a suspenseful game. That’s all. If I stood up the whole time to get a clear view, I’m sure the people behind me would be pissed too.

If it’s a blowout game and the play is inconsequential at that point, I’m doing the wave with everyone else.

Felt to me like Dallas was the one forcing the tight play. They collapsed on their goalie a lot. They seem to be following the same game plan that brought them success a few years ago, which was a very tight and physical game. The problem for them is that's also a game plan that a Sutter based team is very comfortable with, and the Flames have the more consistent and deep offensive team, so are more likely to capitalize on the openings than Dallas.

Oettinger made a couple great saves, and the Flames shot a few pucks into his foot that would have been goals if only a few inches higher.

The one goal lead should make any fan nervous, but we also need to accept that this is how Dallas plays. In 2020 all 4 wins the Stars got in the Western Conference were 1 goal games, with Dallas getting 3 or fewer goals.

IMO the Flames should just try to match Dallas in their shutdown/physical game, as that's a matchup they can win. Trying to open up and score too many goals is a trap.

Alright, the goal is now to win the cup while scoring the fewest goals in history... 1-0 games from here on out. Markstrom with 15 shutouts, Vladar with 1.

Obviously, out of respect for Kipper, Markstrom chose to not get his 10th of the season to tie Kipper's record and now that regular season is over, he's fine getting donuts again
