Peter Maher is so classy he’d never eat another man’s bread, even if invited for a one off.
He left when he knew it was time. Total pro.

I could be way off here, but I've heard a lot of rumbling and innuendo over the years from people who would be in a position to know that suggest the decision for Maher to retire wasn't necessarily on his timeline.

Yeah, it wasn't really his decision.

Here's the difference. Cole was at the end of his run. Peter's run ended 8 years ago. It would just be weird bringing back someone who's so far removed from the day to day just for what, nostalgia?
The Flames have been in the playoffs 4 times since Peter retired. Any one of those years would have made more sense than now and even then it wouldn't have made sense.

Tuned in the morning to listen to a recap of the game. The idiots brought Mark Spector on. That was an instant channel change.

That's your mistake. Was extremely entertaining listening to Spector try and reason that Smith hasn't really lost 10 straight playoff games because two of the games against the Jets went into overtime. Radio gold.

I could be in the minority but I find Derek Wills frustrating to listen to. His inflection on calls and weird pauses make him sound like a news anchor from the 90s. I also don't like how he rarely lets a goal "breathe" a little bit, he doesn't give time for the goal horn to end and crowd noise to be enjoyed before starting the "...an AMAZING breakout by Hanifin... leads to a great pass by TYLER Toffoli.. and Backlund BURIES it... to give the Flames a... 2-1 leeeead..."

Yeah, his cadence drives me nuts and makes him impossible to listen to - how he deliberately goes so much higher and lower in everything he says is not enjoyable as a listener at all.

It's almost cartoonish in a sense, almost reminds me of a guy trying to sound like an old-timey baseball announcer, or the guy from "Major League".

Agreed, it was very entertaining listening to Spector's absolute homerism, and Pinder challenging him without being offensive.

He challenged him a little but they are so soft on the Edmonton boys. I get it why but when a guy like Spector is spouting nonsense like that you have to call him out for what it is.

They had the CHED guy on yesterday, their explanations and rationalizations are off the wall.

For some reason they constantly kiss the Oilers media's butts...everytime I turned it on yesterday they were talking about the Oilers and saying this time it's different.
Because? Kane? Rookie coach?

Playoff OT isn't like gimmick OT where it was a coin flip. Not sure this has registered in his brain.
Continuous 5 on 5 OT losses are legit.
Keep your helmet in tight Spec.

They can't full on roast a guest who's also associated with Sportsnet live on radio, that might be a career limiting move for the boys.
But giving Spec the opportunity to spout his 100% biased opinion to a Calgary audience to a Calgary audience is pure gold.
