There are "things" in sports. You don't call a shut out before it's over. Some people don't walk on cracks on the side walk, avoid black cats, and don't walk under ladders.

There's something cheeky about doing a wave when the game isn't secured.

Is that a "rule"? No.

But it's hardly a CP angry old man, "make sure no one has fun at a hockey game", thing.

I've heard it discussed in baseball, Pinder brings it up on the radio.

Not a CP thing.
And just like I always say when 3 pages of a gt get derailed when a bunch of clowns get upset that someone says shutout; Superstitions are for players. As a fan, you don't get to be upset that other fans don't share the same ones as you. You don't have to take part, but the people pretending the players care just because they don't like a thing is stupid.

Exactly!

Scream at the top of your lungs! Standing ovations at any moment in the game for sure. Go crazy!

Heck I did it all game.

It is the wave when game is not secure that bothers some of us...perhaps superstition...but we have lots to be superstitious about with Flames Dome playoff performances of the past.

Yep, entirely a superstitious thing. To me, its a crowd getting cocky and tempting fate or inviting bad karma. And since I've seen it happen a couple of times it evokes bad memories and fear. Completely irrational. A few times is not all the time. It was fluke. I get that. But I'm a fan, I have superstitions. I'm irrational. Dumb, even.

I think a fan gets to be upset with whatever they want to be upset with.

I won't ban someone for saying shut out, I'll just cringe. I won't slap someone for doing the wave in a 1-0 game, but I won't join in.

But fans are allowed to be upset when sports/hockey customs aren't followed. It's part of being a fan.

You didn't say it was you that walked out the "shut out", but to whoever did ... your call, do what you want, but if you're going to fly in the face of customs then maybe grow a thicker skin?

I don't do either of these things. I just can't stand when a good portion of a GT and PGT is people getting upset at something that has nothing to do with the game, and doesn't matter at all. It's dumb. Not me that needs thicker skin

You think that's lucky? It seemed obvious to me that Andersson totally understood the tradeoff. I bet it would have been different with a grinder in there.

Shout out to Darryl Sutter for getting this team playing so well that our biggest gripe as a fanbase is whether or not we’re doing the wave at appropriate times during a game.

That was the least nerve wracking 1-0 playoff game I think I’ve ever watched. Great to see this team playing so well defensively.

Bowness clearly doesn’t understand the opposition. Not good for them.
Let's not forget that three days ago this is the same coach who said that his top line was not on the ice to check.

The likelihood of swaying opinion is low. But that’s ok. It’s why they make chocolate and vanilla. Because you like crappy ice cream.

You’re all fans and ultimately all on the same side. Nows the time to build each other up and come together by way of your shared passion and support. Be respectful to others, but be forgiving ‘of’ others so long as there’s no ill intent.

It’s playoff time my friends. Flames are up 1-0 in their series, Oilers down 1-0 in theirs. This is an amazing time of year as a hockey fan and a terrific year to be a Flames fan. Let’s expose that and run with it.

Be well, everyone.
Go Flames!

good to get that first one out of the way. Hopefully we'll score more in the next games, but limiting the opponent to 16 shots looks like a darn good recipe for success.

Of course they don't notice. If they noticed the wave would also distract the opposing players.

I wish we knew.

He hesitated to fight at first ... did he know the rule? Was he just trying to piss Klingberg off?

The Flames spread out ice time more, but Andersson is a pretty important piece to be a good trade off with most players.

I'm not a fan of the wave but who am I to tell others how to have fun? Flames are leading the series 1-0 which is all that matters to me.

I think it is dated and ridiculous as anything fans do....but...

I had no idea the wave was anything to do with winning or losing a game.

I mean...30 years ago or whatever and at every sport i can remember, that thing would start happening whether winning or losing as a way for fans to just be involved.

I recall it going at halftime of Stampeder games as a matter of fact.

If people consider it fun...its truly their right to do it, regardless of some "fan code" that others seem to think exists.

Its dumb, maybe even distracting for other fans (there is zero chance it has any effect on players) but unless it is disallowed by the venue, everybody paid for their tickets equally.

Same as the ol' 'Ferkland' line. Trying to stir things up and maybe get in someone's head, mostly just to make himself feel better. Not realizing all its doing is making him look petty and dumb

Here’s my issue with it; regular season I don’t mind it, or blowout games. Sure, whatever.

Home ice is supposed to be an advantage with the crowds intensity, and in a close game late in the 3rd period with the team absolutely dialed in, how do you think they feel when they look up and see a bunch of wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men not paying attention? When it doesn’t match the intensity of the moment it comes off as lame and ignorant.

It’s one thing to praise the Dallas defence, which was pretty good.

It’s another thing to praise the Dallas defence, which was clearly second best of the night, while not mentioning the Flames defence at all.

It’s yet another thing to praise only the defence of a team that was trailing for 55 minutes of the game.

Yeah, that was disappointing. I had it queued up on the 4K channel, and had to wait to switch until the middle of the third period.

Post game was severely lacking too. 30 seconds of panel and off to the SN highlight reel crew.
They do post game as part of Sportscentre now. There were lots of interviews and reactions for the thirty mins after the game ended.
