Flames need to come out hitting. The crowd will get into it quickly with physical play and the flames will feed off of that. Straight line hockey and throw everything at the net early. Dirty/ugly goals will come first and then the nice goals will come later if the flames get a good lead and the stars start to cheat/lose their system.

I expect Lucic, Lewis, Ritchie, Coleman, Tkachuk, Toffoli, and Dube to be physical on the forecheck early.

^^ Yes, I hope they took notice of how games were called last night. I'm sure Sutter did. The whistles have definitely not been put away for the playoffs. Not yet at least.

Finally a game worthy of these unbelievable GDT OPs!

Cheese, thank you so much for doing these, no doubt they are a ton of work. But I want to say - and I am sure I speak for everyone here - that I/we really appreciate it. Settling in on game day and rummaging through all the stats, to get the game face on, has become a total treat.

Thanks again!

This happens every single year. Every one. And every year, fans seem to be surprised by it.

For the first few games, refs call it really tight and there a re tons of PPs. But as the playoffs move on, they allow more and more and more.

Every. Year.

And yet the players also seem surprised by it on the ice.

Guess thats my point.

Players are surprised/infuriated with every single penalty that is called. Always. What makes you think they were particularly surprised by the reffing last night?

The Oilers clearly weren't as they did all the tricks to force penalties.

Tkachuk is my concern. He can be a victim of emotion and turns into super pest. Would love to see his energy go into the game and not the antics, because it’s can distract him and has in the past.

Interesting to look back on previous playoff series for stats vs the outcomes.

Makes me really glad the Flames have Markstrom.

Best series the Flames have played recently in terms of expected goal splits ... the Jets play in.

But the second best was the Ducks sweep, and it's not even close.

You need goaltending to advance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, looking forward to having a guy like Markstrom between the pipes (and a competent backup)

I have a feeling Gaudreau, Lindholm and Tkachuk are going to have the best playoff game they’ve ever played tonight. Go Flames Go!!!!

So. ####ing. HYPED.

Was frustrating watching the Kings last night. They had the defensive structure and goaltending but their guys don't play in the other end like ours do. Even in the last few first round exits the games have been exciting and hard fought. Now we have Darryl, an elite goaltender, and a whole team that plays the right way. Strap in y'all, this should be a fun ride.

Markstrom's career numbers against the Stars are pretty good too. Hasn't played them a ton but whats there is promising.

The style of play compared to the regular season. Players ramped it up. Almost every game it was turned up IMO.

Is the purple Gatorade still a thing? Anybody know what the specific variety of that was? I've never been able to find one in the store that's that bold of a purple. It's always a lighter G2 Frost variety or something like that.

I'm also concerned. He's also been hurt playing that style the past few playoffs. Fluke injuries, sure. But he's putting himself in that spot and drawing that attention.

Why are you concerned this time around then? Not injured and had a career year. and entering contract talks.

Tkachuk is going to be a player this year!! He can handle all the attention which leads to less attention towards Johhnny and Lindholm.

Just concerned that he'll be a bit too aggressive, get hurt again. He's needed on the ice, not watching from the press box.

At least this year Zadorov is on our side. Unless he accidentally squashes Tkachuk.

That said I'm sure he'll be fine, not a major concern. Just something in the back of my mind I guess.
