To be fair, Tkachuk loves to speedbag the closest defenceman or even the goalie following a goal pretty often. He's much more subtle at it though.

Definitely not at his stick. Drai went full lumberjack on his legs

If that was an Oilers goal.. well we know how dramatic he can get.

Yeah, that was an embarrassing goal call. It would be nice if HNIC could at least try to tone down the Oiler cheerleading.

I still don't understand how he escaped a 2 minute penalty for that blatant two hander.

Kings need to play better. Can't always rely on Smith being an idiot.
Hopefully the refs got a talking to because they missed a lot of stuff.

Yeah I don't think the Kings were very good last night and relied on Oilers blunders and Quick making some game stealing saves. They will need to be much better in game two.

Edmonton's ticket to success is winning the special teams. And they did that last night, going 2-4 vs 0-4. But even with the 2 PP goals, and an anemic PP from the Kings, LA still won.
The Kings were the better team in 2 of the 3 periods. They outscored them 4-1 at even strength. They know they have the better goalie, and most importantly, now they KNOW they can win.
There is a good chance Quick steals one at some point. That means that the Oilers have to win 4 of the other 5 games.
The diving will be off the charts tomorrow night.

2011 Vancouver Canucks all over again. If they do start flopping it would be nice if the refs didn't fall for it, or let the crowd make the calls for them.

All the refs need to do is call one embellishment penalty - that would stop the diving. And it's right there in the rule book, just call it.
And I don't mean 2 each, I mean, call a guy for diving, straight up. Calling McDavid, when he grabs a guy's stick and then spins around and flops to the ice, would be the easiest call ever.

Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth in dumpsterville when the dives aren't rewarded with PPs?
Elliotte and his inane ramblings about how the league needs to call more PPs for superstars just because will be barf inducing.

I'm sure there's some stats for this but I always find the refs go nuts with the calls in the first round.

It's the Oilers and Draisaitl specifically so presumably this is covered somewhere in "The Code" Handbook

What did you see last night that indicated this would happen?

Sounds just like last year, everyone was waiting for the Oilers to turn it around only to be swept.

L.A. was the better team overall. They had more structure and played smarter.
The Oilers had a few moments of higher intensity where Quick had to be better than Smith, but looking at the full 60 minutes, anyone who can't see that L.A. was better overall, is wearing homer glasses. The last few minutes with the goalie pulled, the Oilers really poured it on, which probably skews how some recall the game in its entirety.

I think Smith was only out for 1:34. The Kings had about 9000 chances to clear the puck in the last five minutes and couldn't.
Both teams played poorly overall. Smith is just godawful, thank goodness.

Rogers' MO is to pump the Oilers and shape the narrative around the team.
Harnaryan at the buzzer said the Kings "stole" the game... after being up 2-0 and never trailing in the game.
On one hand you almost understand Oiler fan's arrogance when they have been brainwashed by regional and national media that their team is good.
