No skills competition is the playoffs so the Oilers greatly inflated record is going to show.

Kings in 6.

The Kings play a really well structured game, and can stay in it until they get a chance to win it.

I think this series comes down to Edmonton's PP - it either wins it for them or it doesn't. And of course, how the refs respond to McDavid's diving and whining

The other potential factor is Smith. If the Kings can get to him early and win one of the games in Edmonton, then it's anybody's series

The Oilers have been really good at 5 on 5 since Woodcroft took over in both possession and results. The addition of Kane probably made a big difference as well.

I'm pretty sure the Oilers had the most difficult schedule in the NHL during Woodcroft's tenure as well.

The Oilers should have the edge, but as always in the playoffs, anything can happen.

I have Oilers in six, but of course the Oilers goaltending is a wildcard. It's just as likely to sink them as help them.

Those are good numbers albeit a small sample size.

I still say the Oilers are in tough and without PP's, they will have a tough time playing the Kings game.

Well that would be more of the same for this team. The Oilers were actually 31st in penalties drawn during the regular season and had a net penalty differential of -22. (27th)

They will have to be good on both special teams as the Kings were 7th (+23) in penalty diff.

Oilers in 5 games. Sucks that the Oilers got such an easy matchup but it is what it is as the Kings don't match up well against them at all.

The Oilers were 19th in PP opportunities (Flames 18th)

Also, the Oiler had 666 penalty minutes, which was 23rd in the league (i.e. 10th fewest).

Feels exactly like last season.

Oiler fans looking down on their opponents, already thinkig multiple rounds ahead. Think they're the best thing since sliced bread. Pumping regular season metrics albeit with specific parameters.

Retirement aged Smith with vezina numbers leading into the post season with no sign of adversity in a while.

I'd say they're ripe for their annual collapse.

I'm not sure where you're getting your stats from. I'm not saying they're wrong, I just checked and the Oilers are 20th in penalties drawn.

My bad. You have to look at 3 pages. haha.

They were 31st in penalties drawn.

19th in PP opportunities.

9th most in times shorthanded.

-17 in PP opps vs times shorthanded. Weird that the difference between penalties drawn vs taken is -22 and diff between PP opportunities and penalty kills is -17.

Not a lot of calls either way over the season.

Series will depend on old man Smith. If he gets injured or his gameplay implodes (as it inevitably will at some point), it's a different series. Hate to say it, but I think he's got a few more good games in him. Oilers in 6 (boo).

I know it's part of the Oiler culture to try and spin things to show that the world is against you. But here are the facts:

Average number of PP opportunities: 236.75
Flames: 18th - 236
Oilers 19th - 235

I was originally using the "Penalties" section on NHL.com statistics.

That is showing Oilers at 269 and 31st in the league.

Have to use Powerplay and Penalty Kill as well to get the full picture I guess, as penalties drawn isn't the same as PP opps/PP kills.

Probably because of coincidental penalties would be my guess.

Entitled team demands 10 power plays per game.

Cuz they’re entitled.
